摘要: A pad for providing alternating pressure e.g. in a mattress. The pad comprises first and second flexible longitudinal tubes adjacent respective first and second sides of the pad. The pad also includes a plurality of first transverse tubes communicating pneumatically with the first longitudinal tube and each having a closed end remote therefrom and a plurality of second transverse tubes communicating pneumatically with the second longitudinal tube and each having a closed end remote therefrom. The first tubes are disposed at a first angle such that the closed ends of the first transverse tubes are located beneath the second longitudinal tube. The closed ends of the second transverse tubes are disposed at a second angle opposive to the first angle and are located beneath the first longitudinal tube. The first and second tubes are interdigitated so that the arrangement produces a shallow "V".

摘要: A fastening device for flexible sheeting members that must be reliably joined at times and easily disengaged at other times is provided along with a method for using same in connection with a patient support system that includes a pressurizable chamber. A male member desirably has two sections formed of relatively softer material. The female member desirably includes a pair of opposed wing members configured so that external pressure exerted against each wing member toward the other wing member has the effect of leveraging the wing members to positively lock the fastening device. A cord closure has a manually operable release mechanism, which is spring biased to engage a cord member anchored at opposite ends to a flexible sheet secured to the fastening device. The operator selects where along the length of the cord member the cord closure is to be engaged to shorten the length of the flexible sheet. In this way, the fastening device can be selectively pulled down below the patient support surface so as not to contact the patient.

摘要: A therapeutic mattress for bed ridden patients comprises a plurality of inflatable tubular elements fabricated from a low air loss material which are disposed in side by side, transverse relationship to a mattress supporting surface. The air pressure within the various tubular elements is cyclically varied to produce a wave-like deformation of the patient supporting surfaces of the tubular elements which progresses longitudinally along a selected portion of the length of the mattress.

摘要: A hollow flexible body adapted to rest upon a mattress has the general shape of a rectangular parallelepiped which is horizontally elongated and is vertically shallow. The body has a closed bottom and sides with a top having a rectangular opening therein. The opening conforms in shape and size to the top but is somewhat smaller whereby a rectangular border separates the opening from the outer peripher of the top of the body. At least one water filled cushion is disposed in the body with a main portion exposed in the opening and with end portions extending in the body underneath the border. The cushion is detachably secured to the body.

摘要: A mattress consists of a foam body having recesses at positions corresponding to the locations of protruding portions of a patient lying on the mattress. Foam blocks can be selectively placed in portions of the recesses. An encasement member encases the foam body and includes a top foam sheet. A bloused waterproof, non-shearing, flame retardant and antibacterial top sheet forms a portion of the encasement member covering the foam sheet. A zipper in the encasement member enchances air circulation into and out of the mattress.

摘要: Support pads or mattresses are formed from flexible fabric closed covers of generally rectangular configuration forming a chamber or space which is filled to approximately 50% of its normal maximum volume with relatively small expanded polystyrene beads. In one embodiment the pad is formed with intersecting disconnectable straps for restraining an infant in a generally reclined position on the pad. The pad may be converted for use as a carrying bag or container by forming a cavity or receptacle in one end of the cover by displacing the flowable polystyrene beads and utilizing one of the straps as a carrying strap for the bag, thereby providing a protective insulated carrier for various articles. One embodiment of the pad includes a segmented fabric cover forming a plurality of pockets for receiving individual pads or cushions whereby the pad may be utilized as a lounging mattress, swimming pool float, chair, or bench seat. Each of the individual cushions may be removed from the segmented cover for distribution and use in supporting various parts of the human body.

摘要: The mattress includes a hollow, elongated, fluid-inflated mattress body which may be permanently inflated or inflatable and deflatable by connection with a suitable inflation device. The mattress also includes a selectively inflatable patient support component which is disposed generally centrally of the mattress body and is connected thereto. The support component includes a number of cells which are individually connected to a device capable of individually inflating and deflating each of the cells to facilitate support of the patient's body, while lying on the mattress, and to minimize the development of bed sores. The support component inflation device preferably is both manually and automatically controlled. The support component's cells may be elongated, parallel, preferably transversely extending tubes, or a grid of inflatable pockets or the like. In one embodiment, the mattress body comprises a number of contiguous, longitudinally extending tubes connected to a manifold and simultaneously inflatable and deflatable. The mattress has improved properties over conventional inflatable mattresses.

摘要: A cushion for reducing the incidence of decubitus ulcers in immobilized patients has upper and lower sheets peripherally seamed together to form an enclosure which contains a quantity of small plastic spheres or beads. A baffle system is arranged within the enclosure for maintaining the beads in an even distribution throughout the enclosure. The material of the baffle system and upper sheet is permeable to air flow, while the lower surface is not, whereby air may be forced to flow through the enclosure and out the upper sheet from a blower interconnected to an end of the enclosure by a duct.
