摘要： An inflatable mattress made of multiple, integrally joined cushions designed to reduce patient interface pressures, which may be used separately or as an overlay on a standard hospital bed. Each cushion and section of the mattress is formed by joining upper and lower sheets, both to form the edges of the cushions and sections and to provide a relatively flat support surface which is laterally bounded by inflatable ridges which help keep the patient from rolling or sliding off either side of the mattress. The upper and lower sheets to form the mattress are made from a water vapor permeable but waterproof material, certain sections of the upper surface of the cushions being formed of air-permeable material which serves to allow air to escape in the area where a patient lies to provide comfort and therapy for the patient. A blower for the mattress provides compressed air at separately adjustable flow rates through three separate conduits and also include a heating element for warming the air to enhance the therapeutic benefits of the mattress.

摘要： A hemorrhoid supporting pad assembly comprises a pad on a supporting surface which may be a seat cushion assembly. The pad is formed from a flexible envelope partially filled with a fluid. The pad is positioned on the supporting surface beneath a seated person. Lateral portions of the envelope containing the fluid extend beneath the seated person. The weight of the seated person causes the fluid in the lateral portions of the envelope to flow toward the central region of the envelope, where the fluid is forced upwardly, beneath the anus, to support the hemorroid.

摘要： A mattress employs a first plastic unit which is flat and horizontal and is provided with a peripherally disposed horizontal endless hollow tube which is inflatable. The tube, when inflated, defines a raised peripheral border surrounding and enclosing an inner flat horizontal central area of the first unit. A second plastic unit is removably disposed on top of the central area. The second unit has a first upper section having oppositely disposed inner and outer surfaces, the outer surface being disposed above the inner surface and permanently defining a plurality of closely spaced raised regions which are interconnected by channels disposed below the top surfaces of the regions. The inner surface permanently defines a like plurality of deep recesses, each deep recess constituting the inside of a corresponding region, the deep recesses being interconnected by shallow recesses, each shallow recess constituting the inside of a corresponding channel. The second unit has a second lower section which is essentially flat and horizontal and is sealed to the inner surface of the first section in such manner that the deep and shallow recesses communicate with each other.

摘要： Medical patients, such as those having burns or bed sores, are supported fully or in part by this fluid system, which is available in many embodiments. All embodiments are directed to reducing local bearing pressure on body tissue. Multiple flexible elements or cells of differing embodiments are filled with a pressurized fluid, usually air. These multiple flexible cells are generally supported on a fully adjustable hospital bed frame.When all the cells are inflated by internal fluid pressure, upper portions of the cells contact one another to form an overall seal which substantially prevents the escape of any fluid under equal or lower pressure, which may be thereafter introduced into the spaces between the lower portions of the cells. By using selective fluid pressurization and supply systems, automatic valving action occurs whereby the patient's body weight is beneficially distributed and supported on fluid, substantially reducing the values of supporting pressures. Adjustment of the external fluid supply to the point where it slightly exceeds that in the interior of the cells causes the flexible cells below the patient to be deflated and to collapse. This results in the patient being supported upon a deep cushion of pressurized fluid, with the minimum possible values of pressure exerted upon the patient's skin. The flexible cells located beyond the periphery of the patient will remain inflated.

摘要： An infant waterbed for use in an incubator is disclosed that comprises a tray, a flexible mattress that sits in the tray and holds a fluid, such as water, that is capable of supporting an infant, a cover that fits over the top of the tray to separate the infant from the mattress, a frame that surrounds the cover and fits over the edge of the tray to hold the cover in place, and an oscillator that includes a bladder that sits under the mattress and means for inflating and deflating the bladder randomly at a predetermined frequency. Compensatory vestibular-proprioceptive stimulation is imparted to premature infants by placing them on the above described oscillating waterbed.
