Abstract: A random number sequence generation apparatus includes: a semiconductor laser device repeatedly generating a pulsed laser beam having a disordered phase; an interferometer including a first transmission line and a second transmission line, a first port connected to an input terminal side and to which the pulsed laser beam is input, a second port connected to an output terminal side and outputs the pulsed laser beam, and a third port connected to the input terminal side; a Faraday mirror connected to the second port and reflecting the pulsed laser beam; a photodiode connected to the third port and outputs an electrical signal in accordance with interference light of the pulsed laser beam that is reflected by the Faraday mirror and passes through one of the transmission lines; and an AD converter configured to generate a random number sequence on the basis of the electrical signal and a threshold.

Abstract: A random acoustic phase scrambler device is installed in-line with a telecommunications fiber link to prevent voice detection via fiber links. The device includes a transducer to produce vibrations; a length of optical fiber positioned to receive the vibration from the transducer; and a random acoustic phase driver configured to control the intensity and frequency of the vibrations. The transducer produces randomized vibrations within an acoustic bandwidth. The device is configured to introduce device-induced phase changes to signals within the telecommunications fiber link. The bandwidth of the device-induced phase changes is greater than the bandwidth of voice-induced phase changes, and the device-induced phase changes are greater in intensity than the voice-induced phase changes. The device-induced phase changes mask voice-induced phase changes through the telecommunications fiber link that are otherwise detectable by voice detection equipment tapped to the telecommunications fiber link.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for cyber security using light polarization. Data may be encoded in an optical signal. A seed may be converted to a target degree of polarization. The optical signal may be polarized to have the target degree of polarization and transmitted. The polarized optical signal may be received at a receiver and a degree of polarization of the received polarized optical signal measured. A seed may be converted by the receiver to an expected degree of polarization. The received polarized optical signal may be determined to be compromised based on a difference between the expected degree of polarization and the degree of polarization of the received polarized optical signal.

The optical core region supports propagation of light along at least a first radial mode associated with the optical core region and a high index ring region supports propagation of light along at least a second radial mode associated with the high index ring region. Abstract: A system and method for securing communication over an optical fiber are disclosed. The system includes a transmit spatial multiplexer configured to couple a plurality of optical signals into respective ones of a plurality of spatial paths of an optical fiber, each of the spatial paths being able to carry an optical signal; wherein at least one of the plurality of optical signals is an optically modulated version of a desired sequence of information that is intended to be transferred over the optical fiber; and wherein at least one of the plurality of optical signals is an optical chaff signal; whereby a tap along the fiber cannot determine the transmitted desired sequence of information.

Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to optical modules, and in particular, to an optical module comprising a printed circuit board for reducing crosstalk between differential signal lines. In one implementation, the printed circuit board comprises a top layer, a first intermediate signal transmission layer, a second intermediate signal transmission layer, a bottom layer and multiple ground layers between signal transmission layers. Each signal transmission layer comprises one or more differential signal line pairs. The top layer and the bottom layer each comprises an edge connector, and the top layer further comprises a laser driver chip. The signal transmission layers are connected to the edge connectors and laser driver chips via a combination of blind and through connection holes such that the interference between the differential signal line pairs of various signal transmission layers are reduced.

Abstract: Techniques to transmit encoded data along a transmission medium and decode the transmitted data along the transmission medium are provided. Some techniques include logic to encode data transmitted along a transmission medium, such as a fiberoptic line or cable, where the encoding is pursuant to a conversion between a first and second colorspace. The logic may further be configured to decode the data once it is received at a node along the fiberoptic line, where the colorspace conversion provides the basis, key, or cipher for preforming the decoding operation. The logic may be further configured to alter the encryption and decryption basis, key, or cypher by altering the colorspace scheme defining the encoding (and by extension the decoding) during transmission, including a transmission that takes place after a previous transmission governed by the previously defined (and subsequently altered) colorspace conversion scheme. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Abstract: Methods and systems for simplified encryption key generation in optical networks use a Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol to securely generate an encryption key at both endpoints of an optical path provisioned in an optical transport network. Instead of generating yet another key for payload data transmission, the encryption key from TLS is used for encrypting payload data transmission without using the TLS protocol.
