The mass center of the C-shaped arm is situated on the pivot axis. The mass centers of the C-shaped arm and of the carriage are situated on a leverage line which extends at least substantially through the leverage point. The mass centers of the C-shaped arm and of the carriage are situated to both sides of the leverage point. The ratio of the distance between the mass center of the C-shaped arm and the leverage point to the distance between the mass center of the carriage and the leverage point is substantially equal to the ratio of the mass of the carriage to the mass of the C-shaped arm.

A medical image radiography apparatus includes a radiography system for taking a medical image of a subject, a supporting mechanism for supporting the radiography system in various radiography positions, a memory unit for storing a plurality of radiography positions, together with their order relation, as sequential automatic positioning data, and a controller for controlling the supporting mechanism on the basis of the sequential automatic positioning data in order to change a radiography position sequentially. In this manner, the plurality of radiography positions are stored, together with their order relation, as the sequential automatic positioning data. When taking a radiograph, the radiography position is sequentially changed in accordance with the sequential automatic positioning data. As a result, the operability concerning a change in the radiography position is improved more than in the conventional case wherein a preset button is repeatedly selected.

A support system for a radiation treatment system includes a rotatable extension arm extending from a vertical shaft and a rotatable counterbalance extending diametrically opposed to the extension arm from the vertical shaft. The vertical shaft is rotatably supported by a support base. The support base may include a damping mechanism to damp the rotational motion of the vertical shaft relative to the support base, wherein the damping force is preferably proportional to the velocity of the vertical shaft. The radiation treatment system is suspended from a cable extending from a distal end of the extension arm. The extension arm can be formed from a first arm extending from the vertical shaft and a second arm rotatably coupled to the first arm in order to permit the radiation treatment system to be moved in horizontal direction. The cable supporting the radiation treatment system can be coupled to a vertical counterbalance weight to allow the vertical position of the radiation treatment system to be adjusted. In addition, mass of the vertical counterbalance weight can be adjusted to compensate for attachments which may be used with the radiation treatment system during treatment. The radiation treatment system can be supported to permit rotation about a horizontal axis that extends through the center of mass of the radiation treatment system. In addition position of the horizontal axis of rotation relative to the center of mass of the radiation treatment system can be adjusted to compensate for attachments which may change the center of mass of the radiation treatment system.

The X-ray imaging apparatus then acquires a mask image before injecting a contrast medium into the subject, and a contrast image after injecting the contrast medium. X-ray irradiation timing is controlled such that the collecting rate of an X-ray image in an acceleration/deceleration area near at least one of a start position and a stopping position of the arm is approximately equal to the collecting rate of the image in a constant velocity area for rotating the arm at an approximately constant velocity.

A medical imaging system comprises a C-arm unit having an x-ray source for generating x-rays and a receptor for obtaining image exposures from received x-rays. The C-arm unit moves the x-ray source and receptor along an image acquisition path between at least first and second exposure positions. The C-arm unit rotates about a central axis. Source and receptor brackets mount the x-ray source and receptor, respectively, to the C-arm unit. The source and receptor brackets move at least one of the x-ray source and receptor in a radial direction toward and away from the central axis of the C-arm unit to maintain a desired distance between the patient and the x-ray source and receptor. An image processor collects a series of image exposures from the receptor and constructs a three dimensional volumetric data set which is displayed on a display.

A dual C-arm angiographic device for flat panel x-ray receptor (“dual C-arm gantry”) comprises: a base attached to the floor; an outer C-shaped track non-movably attached to the base; a crawler carriage that moves along the outer track; and a counterweighted, inner C-shaped instrument bracket (“inner C-arm”) pivotally attached to the crawler carriage. A detector/counterweight housing, flat-panel x-ray receptor, and x-ray tube and collimator are attached to the inner C-arm. The bottom end of the outer track terminates at the base, such that the outer track arches over the side and top of a separate patient support table. Additionally, the outer track, crawler carriage, and inner C-arm are mutually configured such that the dual C-arm gantry is capable of full spherical angulation and of providing a full range of clinical positioning, while minimizing interference with clinical use patterns (i.e., the head end of the table is left clear for all angulations).

In a preferred embodiment, the system comprises an x-ray source assembly, a tube housing mounting, an automatic measuring means, a motion control means and a processing means in communication with the automatic measuring system and the motion control system. The alignment of the system occurs with minimal input by the operator.

The system also includes an imaging isocentric area located between the x-ray source and the x-ray detector. The imaging isocentric area remains substantially constant when the noncircular positioning arm rotates relative to the support base.

Two independently articulated arms supporting an x-ray tube and x-ray detector, respectively, are mounted offset to the patient and controlled to simulate a wide variety of conventional x-ray positioners. The articulated arms provide for at least two axes of independent motion. An axis controller sends movement signals to each axis, and receives position signals from each axis to coordinate movement of the axes of the articulated arms according to a contained program. A network interface communicates with the axis controller for receiving at least a portion of the program over a network.
