Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some cases, randomized shifts of a base sequence may be used for transmitting uplink control information. For example, a user equipment (UE) may identify a base sequence of an uplink control message. The UE may also receive signaling that indicates a UE-specific initial shift that may be applied to the base sequence. In some examples, the signaling that indicates the randomized shift may be explicit, implicit, or a combination thereof. After determining one or more shifted sequences based on the UE-specific initial shift, a payload of the uplink control message, and the base sequence, the UE may select a shifted sequence to be transmitted, where the selection is based on a payload of the uplink control message. For example, different shifted sequences may be selected for respective transmissions of scheduling requests, 1-bit acknowledgments (ACKs), 2-bit ACKs, and the like.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to a new radio (NR) single symbol design in which reference signals and data tones are frequency division multiplexed (FDM). In a particular aspect of the disclosure, a different encoding sequence is assigned to each possible value of an information element (IE) such that a minimum distance between encoding sequences corresponding to any pair of possible values is maximized. A symbol corresponding to a particular value of the IE is then transmitted. Here, the symbol is configured according to a sequence selected from a set of sequences corresponding to the particular value of the IE, such that the symbol comprises a plurality of reference signals FDM with a plurality of FDM resource elements.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to methods and apparatus for implementing one or more antenna diversity schemes using communications systems operating according to 5G technologies. For example, techniques and apparatus may be provided for employing Alamouti encoding in a time domain for one or more portions of a plurality of modulated symbols associated with a first signal to be transmitted by a first antenna or a second signal to be transmitted by a second antenna to create a first plurality of encoded symbols or a second plurality of encoded symbols with tone-wise Alamouti in the frequency domain.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described that support discontinuous scheduling. A base station may transmit, to a user equipment (UE), a grant of resources of a communication channel over a multiple of aggregated TTIs. The UE may monitor a control channel for the grant of resources transmitted by base station. The base station and the UE may identify a location of an excluded TTI within the plurality of aggregated TTIs. The excluded TTI may correspond to a TTI for communicating synchronization signals, random access channel (RACH) signals, or the like. The base station may communicate with the UE via the resources of the communication channel over at least a subset of the aggregated TTIs based on the grant and the location of the excluded TTI.

Abstract: Techniques are described herein for addressing tone misalignment between signals of a first radio access technology (RAT) and signals of a second RAT in a combined signal. In some wireless communications systems, the tones of uplink (UL) signals may be shifted up or down based on the configuration of the particular RAT. If UL signals of the first RAT are not shifted in frequency and UL signals of the second RAT are shifted in frequency, processing the combined signal may include additional processing to account for the mismatch.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. Pilot ratios (e.g., a ratio of pilot (or reference signal) resources to a total number of resources) may be adapted based on various properties associated with transmissions between wireless devices. For example, a wireless device (e.g., a user equipment (UE) or a base station) may use different transmission configurations for transmitting messages that include reference signals and data. Based on the transmission configuration, the wireless device may determine an adjustable pilot ratio based on the transmission configuration. In some cases, the adjustable pilot ratio may be explicitly signaled, or may be implicitly determined based on the transmission configuration. For example, a wireless device may transmit (or receive) an indication of the pilot ratio, or the wireless device may determine the pilot ratio based on a transmission configuration used for communicating with the other wireless device.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure are related to identifying whether an apparatus (e.g., base station, access point, etc.) is transmitting using a CRS based transmission scheme or a UE-RS based transmission scheme. Such detection may be necessary for PDSCH interference cancellation (IC) of a neighboring cell since a UE may not know which transmission scheme is used by the neighboring cell. For instance, the UE may know the transmission scheme of the serving cell, but the UE may not know the transmission scheme of a neighboring non-serving cell. As such, aspects of the disclosure provide for a blind detection algorithm to identify or determine a transmission mode or transmission scheme of a neighboring cell to then apply interference cancellation (IC) to an interfering signal received from the neighboring cell.

Abstract: Time tracking in current communication systems may be traditionally based on common reference signals (CRS). However, in certain communication systems, CRS-based time tracking may be impossible to implement due to an absence of CRS in certain subframes or carriers. CRS-based time tracking may also be inappropriate to implement in certain communication systems such as a coordinated multipoint (CoMP) system where control and data may arrive from different cells, and therefore, a UE may assume a wrong cell for CRS-based time tracking. Accordingly, methods, apparatuses, and computer program products for wireless communication are provided in which additional UE specific reference signals (UE-RS) and/or channel state information reference signals (CSI-RS) are made available to the UE so that the UE may have improved channel estimation and/or time tracking performance.
