摘要： A post-compilation tool can rewrite executable images produced by a compiler. The tool can add extension definitions, insert extension-trigger instructions, and add a security signature. Operating system software may be notified of extension capabilities when loading the executable image, and may proceed to load an appropriate processor extension. The operating system software can manage availability of processor extensions on behalf of the applications.

A user-side influence reporting method includes collecting data indicative of a computing device environment of a user-side computing device facilitating a person accessing Web pages and facilitating the person communicating with a third-party via a computer network. The method also includes transforming the collected data to indicate an involvement between the third-party and the person. The method further includes transforming the collected data to indicate the Web pages accessed by the person. The method also includes correlating the indicated involvement between the third-party and the person with the indicated Web pages accessed by the person. The method further includes outputting from the user-side computing device data indicative of the correlation.

The facility counts instructions and/or function calls to provide a useful performance metric to a user of the system. The count is forwarded to a user level monitoring program. The inclusion of the facility within the kernel enhances the speed of performance monitoring and enables the operating system to be directly monitored by the facility.
