Abstract:
Embodiments of systems and methods for interworking of networks using a single radio handover are generally described herein. Other embodiments may be described and claimed.
Abstract:
Short user messages can be conveyed in system management signaling for a data or telephony network. In one example, a first control message is sent from a first radio to a second radio, the control message including a data field, the data field containing a short message directed from a user of the first radio to a user of a third radio. In response, a second control message is received in reply to the first control message from the second radio, the second control message including a data field, the data field containing a response to the short message.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for emergency call services for wireless network roaming. An embodiment of a method includes receiving a request for an emergency telephone call from a mobile device, the mobile device communication over the Internet, the mobile device roaming in a visited wireless network when the emergency call is made. The method further includes establishing a session for an emergency services call and connecting the mobile device to emergency services.
Abstract:
Briefly, in accordance with one or more embodiments, in wireless network, keep-alive type packets may be received from a remote application for a mobile station. A determination may be made whether the mobile station is in an idle mode. If the mobile station is in an idle mode, a determination may be made whether a port in a keep-alive type packet is recognized. If the port is recognized, an application server may respond to the keep-alive type packet on behalf of the mobile station so that the mobile station is not required to exit the idle mode to respond to the keep-alive type packets.
Abstract:
An embodiment of the present invention provides an apparatus, comprising a mobile station (MS) operable to communicate with an application service provider (ASP) in a wireless network, the wireless network including a USI proxy in the line of a data path from the MS to the ASP and performs stateful content inspection of all packets passing through the US proxy; and wherein when the USI proxy intercepts an ASP request message, it appends the USI context to the ASP request message if not already present in the message and in order to fetch the USI context of the MS, a USI proxy sends the USI context request to a USI server and the USI server sends a USI context response back to the USI proxy which contains the USI context for the MS.
Abstract:
A composite quality measure helps determine a target for a vertical handover between different connection types. Various measurements are normalized, weighted and summed to produce composite quality measures. A composite quality measure may be compared to a target value and the corresponding connection may be added to a feasibility table if the composite quality measure is above the target.
Abstract:
Methods, apparatuses and systems for location discovery, electronic payment and multicast broadcast in a wireless broadband network disclosed.
Abstract:
Embodiments herein may use first and second path loss values L1 and L2 to calculate first and second distances R1 and R2 between the MS and first and second base stations BS1 and BS2, respectively, in a wireless packet-carrying network. L1 and L2 may comprise values of a reduction in signal strength of signals as transmitted by the BS1 and the BS2 and as received by the MS. The MS may triangulate its position relative to a grid using R1 and R2. Other embodiments may be described and claimed.
Abstract:
Methods are provided to enable a roaming Wireless Local Access Network (WLAN) customer to select from multiple PLMNs using a single standard SSID. The methods include addition of a Mobile Country Code (MCC) to the SSID; addition of an MCC and a series of Mobile Network Codes (MNC) to the SSID; and reverse Domain Name Server (DNS) lookup for the gateway IP address through the designated DNS server.
Abstract:
An embodiment of the present invention provides an apparatus, comprising a mobile station (MS) operable to communicate with an application service provider (ASP) in a wireless network, the wireless network including a Universal Services Interface (USI); and wherein the MS includes a USI client adapted to store some or all USI context as required by said ASP and wherein when a user accesses the ASP using something other than a web-browser, the USI client inserts relevant USI context as part of an ASP request message.
