    Abstract: Provided is an optical element module including: a substrate; an optical modulator unit that is formed in the substrate and includes an optical waveguide; a first lens unit that is disposed on an end surface of the substrate, and includes a lens portion at which a signal light beam emitted from the optical modulator unit is collimated; and a second lens unit that introduces the signal light beam passing through the first lens unit to an optical fiber. The optical modulator unit includes a Mach-Zehnder type optical waveguide, a Y-branch coupler of the Mach-Zehnder type optical waveguide includes an output waveguide through which a signal light beam is guided, and a radiated light beam waveguide through which a radiated light beam is guided, and an unnecessary light beam removing unit, which suppresses input of a higher-order mode light beam propagating through the output waveguide or a leaked light beam propagating through the inside of the substrate into the optical fiber through the lens portions of the first lens unit, is provided between the output waveguide and the radiated light beam waveguide in the vicinity of an end of the substrate.

    Abstract: An optical modulator and an optical transmission device using the same are provided. The optical modulator includes an optical waveguide substrate where an optical waveguide is formed; a light modulation element, provided in the optical waveguide substrate and including a modulation electrode applying an electric field corresponding to a modulation signal to the optical waveguide; a terminal substrate, disposed near the light modulation element and including terminal resistors that terminate the modulation signal, wherein the optical waveguide substrate, the light modulation element and the terminal substrate are accommodated in a housing; and a heat dissipation auxiliary element, provided between the terminal resistors and the housing. A distance b between the terminal resistors and the heat dissipation element is set to be shorter than a distance a from the terminal resistors to an end on the side of the optical waveguide substrate of the terminal substrate.

    Abstract: An optical modulator with FPC and optical transmission device using the same are provided. This optical modulator includes a flexible printed circuit which electrically connects the optical modulator to a circuit board. The flexible printed circuit has a substantially quadrilateral shape. A pad is formed on the flexible printed circuit along one side of the substantially quadrilateral shape so as to be electrically connected to the circuit board. In order to release the mechanical stress applied onto the side or the end portion of the flexible printed circuit and/or to prevent propagation of distortion generated in the side or the end portion, the flexible printed circuit has: a cutout or a notch provided in a direction from a part of at least one side toward the inside of the flexible printed circuit; and/or a curved portion connecting at least two adjacent sides.

    Abstract: Provided is an optical modulator module in which a modulation substrate having a plurality of optical modulation units is stored inside a package case. The optical modulator module includes a plurality of signal supply lines configured to supply a modulation signal to the optical modulation unit through a connector terminal which is introduced into the package case. At least two or more of the plurality of signal supply lines are set such that the signal supply lines have overall electrical lengths which are different from each other. A particular part of the signal supply line employs at least one of the following configurations (a) and (b): (a) setting the signal supply line having a longer overall electrical length to have a wider cross-sectional area of a surface perpendicular to a direction in which the modulation signal propagates; and (b) setting a cross-sectional area of the particular part to be wider than cross-sectional areas of parts other than the particular part and setting the signal supply line having a longer overall electrical length to have the particular part increased in length.

    Abstract: An optical modulator includes an optical modulation element including a plurality of signal electrodes and the like, a plurality of lead pins and the like for inputting radio frequency signals, and a relay substrate in which conductor patterns and the like that electrically connect the lead pins with the signal electrodes respectively are formed, the relay substrate is disposed so that a propagation direction of the radio frequency signals that have propagated through the lead pins is bent and guided to the conductor patterns, and the relay substrate is constituted so that widths of gaps between the plurality of conductor patterns in the optical modulator-side edge of the relay substrate is smaller than, preferably smaller than 50% of widths of gaps between the plurality of conductor patterns in the lead pin-side edge.

    Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide an optical waveguide element module where the bonding wires can be prevented from disengaging or disconnecting so as to provide high reliability. Another object is to provide an optical waveguide element module that can be made compact and where an increase in the manufacturing cost can be minimized.     Abstract: Provided is an optical control element that can minimize an optical path difference between branched waveguides while reducing a difference in structure between the branched waveguides by disposing an input portion and an output portion of an optical waveguide on the same side of a substrate on which the optical waveguide is formed. An optical control element includes a substrate 1 having an electro-optic effect, an optical waveguide 2 formed on the substrate, and a control electrode controlling a light wave propagating through the optical waveguide, in which an input portion (input light L1) and an output portion (output light L2) of the optical waveguide are formed on the same side of the substrate, the optical waveguide includes at least one Mach-Zehnder type optical waveguide portion (MZ) that has two branched waveguides (21, 22) branched from one optical waveguide and combines the two branched waveguides to form one optical waveguide, and the branched waveguides have an even number of turned-back potions (A1, A2).
