Abstract: Various implementations described herein are directed to a method for determining an order of power devices connected in a serial string. A command is transmitted, to at least one first power device of a plurality of power devices, to change an output electrical parameter. At least one electrical signal is caused to be transmitted from at least one second power device of the plurality of power devices. At least one measured value responsive to the electrical signal is received from at least one of the plurality of power devices. A determination is made, by analyzing the at least one measured value, which ones of the plurality of power devices are ordered in the serial string between the at least one first power device and the at least one second power device.

Abstract: A method for a power system having a string of a plurality of power sources connected across a power device includes connecting a plurality of safe voltage units having safety switches connected respectively across each of the power sources. The method includes sensing a plurality of parameters of the power sources, and monitoring for a signal transmitted from the power device. Each of the safety switches is activated to be OFF responsive to detecting the signal within a predetermined time period. Upon not detecting the signal from the power device within the predetermined time period, a safe mode of operation of the power system is entered in which the voltages of each of the power sources is reduced to a voltage level less than a predetermined voltage level by turning the safety switches ON.

Abstract: A method and apparatus to bypass, using bypass circuits, non-operating power modules in a power system. Multiple power sources are coupled to inputs of respective power modules. Multiple bypass circuits have respective terminals operatively coupled to the respective outputs of the power modules. The outputs of the power modules are coupled in a series connection and the series connection is coupled across a load. Each bypass circuit includes a switch operatively coupled across a first input of a circuit and an output of a power module. A feedback circuit includes a second input coupled to an output of the circuit. A coupling circuit includes a third input coupled to an output of the feedback circuit. The coupling circuit includes an output operatively coupled across the switch. The switch is biased to provide the bypass responsive to a voltage of the output of the circuit and the voltage of the power module output.

Abstract: Methods for arc detection in a system including one or more photovoltaic generators, one or more photovoltaic power devices and a system power device and/or a load connectible to the photovoltaic generators and/or the photovoltaic power devices. The methods measure voltage, voltage noise and/or power delivered to the load or system power device. The methods may compare one or more measurements, an aggregation of measurements and/or values estimated from the measurements to one or more thresholds, and upon a comparison indicating a potential arcing condition, an alarm condition may be set. Embodiments include an arrangement of photovoltaic generators and photovoltaic power devices for reduced-impedance voltage loops which may enhance arc-detection capabilities.
