摘要:
A control for engagement with the external base of a liquid heating vessel comprises a carrier mounting two bimetallic actuators at opposite ends thereof. The actuators operate at the same temperature. Attached to the carrier is a moulding which provides a cordless electrical connector for the vessel, as well as mounting switch means operable by the actuators through push rods. The push rod acts on a leaf spring to open the contacts, and upon further movement engages an arm of a trip lever, so tripping the lever and causing a further arm of the lever to engage the leaf spring open the contacts fully.

An immersion heater has a support plate on which there is provided an electrical heating element in the form of a printed circuit conductive track. The element is provided with a portion which allows it to be clamped in direct relation to a control unit in order to provide direct electrical, thermal, and mechanical connection to that unit. This allows the control unit to operate in the same manner as a control unit connected to a conventional immersion heater. A water heating vessel using the immersion heater mounted to a control unit through an aperture in the base of the vessel is also disclosed.

An immersion heater includes a heating element having a return portion around which is wrapped a thermally conductive link. The link extends through a plastic head and seal member, by which the element is mounted in an opening in a wall of a heating chamber, and has a first portion bent down to cooperate with a bimetallic actuator of a thermally responsive control, which operates in the event that the element overheats. A second portion of the link is bent upwardly, its upper end cooperating with a thermally deformable member of the control which, in the event that the actuator fails to operate, will deform so as to disconnect the power supply to the element.

A temperature limiting control for an electrical heating appliance such as a ceramic hob comprises switch means (11) and a temperature sensor (10) connnected thereto. The temperature sensor comprises an elongate reference member (12) of ceramic or other low expansion material and an elongate expansion member (13), for example a tape of high chrome steel, relative expansion of the two members operating the switch. The switch (11) and reference member (13) lie to one side of the expansion member (12) so that the latter may be placed closely adjacent the top (2) of the appliance.
