This invention provides a safe and sanitary apparatus for blending hard ice cream (or other frozen confections) with syrups and other ingredients. A refrigerated funnel holds the materials to be mixed. An auger is aligned with the funnel and the auger and the funnel are relatively advanced toward each other while the auger is rotated clockwise and counterclockwise until the funnel and the auger are telescoped together, thus to produce a tasty and attractively marbled or blended product. A spray head and suitable automatic washing apparatus also is provided to rinse the auger and funnel surfaces.

A method for making an ice cream sundae including the steps of adding ice cream to a container and pumping a topping onto the ice cream in the container wherein the topping has a viscosity of from about 1000 cps to about 18,000 cps, and solids content of from about 40 to about 70 percent by weight of the topping. In a further embodiment wherein the topping contains fruit the viscosity of the topping is from about 4 to about 12 Bostwick units.

The present invention concerns an ice cream machine for home use. The ice cream machine of the invention having a mixing auger and a mixing cone uses a unique drive system to vertically drive the cone to engage the auger and mix the products contained within the cone. An arc gear, pinion gear and a rack gear are provided in the drive train of the invention and are intermeshed with each other and interconnected with a manually operable lever arm to accomplish the desired vertical drive of the mixing cone. This configuration allows increased leverage and efficiency in the vertical drive movement. Also provided herein are various size reduction and easy cleaning features. Finally the unique gear drive train allows for a steady extrusion of a deliciously mixed, flavored ice cream or ice milk product.
