摘要:
The removal of sticky contaminants during the production of recycled paper is accomplished utilizing a hydrocyclone froth flotation process. Paper having sticky contaminants from labels, tapes, hot melts, and other tacky substances, is reduced to a finely comminuted liquid solids suspension of about 1-4% consistency. The suspension is introduced into a first end of a vortex in a hydrocyclone, and the air is sparged radially inwardly into the suspension vortex by passing it through a porous inner wall of the hydrocyclone. Ligher weight sticky contaminants move to the center of the hydrocyclone, facilitated by the radially inward movement of the sparging air, and hydrophobic sticky contaminants attach to the air bubbles and form a foam. The foam and lightweight sticky contaminants are removed from the first end of the vortex, while the pulp which has had sticky contaminants removed therefrom is discharged from the second end of the vortex, opposite the first end. A plurality of vertical axis hydrocyclones may be connected together in series, with a plurality of the series connected in parallel, to provide the most effective treatment. Removal of sticky contaminants can be practiced prior to or simultaneously with deinking.

A cyclone separator for separating components of a liquid mixture including oil and water phases has oppositely disposed separating chambers with a common intermediate portion positioned between the separating chambers which provides a common inlet and in one embodiment, a common overflow outlet. The oppositely directed underflow outlets can be curved to meet at a common discharge point.

Apparatus (100) for separating components of a liquid mixture such as oil from water. The apparatus comprises a cyclonic device (110) and a separating device (150). The cyclonic device has a tangential inlet (112) for inlet of the mixture, an elongate chamber (114) in which, in use, the admitted mixture is subjected to contrifugal action and an outlet (116) from the components of the mixture are in use together taken. The separating device (150) may be a conventional cyclone separator having a separating chamber (154), with an inlet (152) coupled to in use receive the components from the outlet of the cyclonic device (110) for admission to the separating chamber (154), and separate outlets (156, 158) from the separating chamber (154) for respective outlet therefrom of th separated liquid components.

A method and apparatus for selectively separating a mixture of hydrophobic and hydrophilic mineral particles. A mineral pulp is prepared which includes minerals ground to a predetermined size. A bubble slurry is then prepared which includes a gas entrained in a liquid to form bubbles of a predetermined size. The mineral pulp and bubble slurry are simultaneously injected into the cell apparatus. The cell has an enclosed body with a feed receiving portion, a narrowed apex portion with an underflow discharge, and an intermediately disposed merger zone. A mineral pulp feed port extends into and is directed tangentially to the feed receiving portion in the mineral pulp feed zone. The bubble slurry feed port, disposed in the same direction as the mineral pulp feed port, extends into and is directed tangentially to the feed receiving portion in the bubble slurry zone. A vortex finder, having a tubular member which has one end extending exterior of the feed receiving portion and another end extending into the merger zone, is attached to and extends axially of the feed receiving portion. The mineral pulp and the bubble slurry merge in the merger zone, hydrophobic particles form a froth and exit through the vortex finder, and the hydrophilic particles exit through the underflow discharge, thereby separating the mixture mineral particles.

Apparatus for separating solid particles from a fluid, comprising a swirl chamber (3) provided with a curved wall, a tangential inlet (9) and a solids outlet (13), both arranged perpendicular to the central longitudinal axis (5) of the swirl chamber (3). A swirl tube (16) extends coaxially into the swirl chamber (3) and has an open end (20) arranged in the swirl chamber (3) and a solids outlet opening (22) arranged outside the swirl chamber (3). A fluid outlet tube (28) has an outlet part (34) extending coaxially into the swirl chamber (3) in a direction opposite to the direction in which the swirl tube (16) extends and an inlet part (32) arranged in the swirl tube (16). Swirl imparting means (46) are arranged between the swirl tube (16) and the fluid outlet tube (28), so as to impart a swirl in the swirl tube (16), which swirl has the same direction of rotation as in the swirl chamber (3).
摘要:
An apparatus and method for separating contaminants from gaseous flow characterized by the formation of a compound vortex with an outer liquid filter medium strata and an inner contaminated gaseous strata. Contaminants are transferred from the gaseous strata to the liquid filter medium strata thereby filtering the gaseous flow. The compound vortex is formed by simultaneously feeding the contaminated gas and a liquid filter medium, most typically water, in distinct parallel streams into a primary cyclone vessel having an elongated cavity with a substantially circular cross section. A secondary cyclone separate is also disclosed for separating the filtered gas from the liquid filter medium/contaminants mixture and for separating the contaminants from the liquid filter medium.

A cyclonic separator for particles suspended in the flow of an air stream. The separator comprises first and second spiral baffles adapted for mating engagement one within the other for imparting cyclonic flow to the air stream for collecting the particles from cyclonic motion thereof. The baffles are oriented with the first baffle rotated relative to the second baffle to therein form a flow path therebetween. The flow path between the baffles has in it a reversing, oppositely directed concentric spiral passage which carries the particles in a first spiral direction and then in a second opposite spiral direction. Each inner terminal end of the first baffle, or each outer terminal end of the second baffle, or both, may include an arcuate region of sharply increasing curvature adapted for collecting strayed paint particles and solvent droplets. The first and the second spiral baffles as described above may also be made from electrically conductive material and each is being held electrically insulated from the other for the application of electric potentials of opposite polarity thereto.

Separating apparatus for separating components of a liquid mixture one from the other and method of separating such components.Liquid mixture to be separated is passed via inlet means (18) including a duct (40), to tangential inlets (20, 22) of a cyclone separator (10) so that the less dense component of the mixture emerges from an overflow outlet (34a) of the separator (10) and the more dense component emerges from an underflow outlet (16a) of the separator. Gas is entrained in the incoming liquid mixture in duct (40) by expressing the gas into the duct via a manifold (42a) having openings (42a). The gas is admitted under conditions of relatively high pressure of incoming mixture in duct (40) whereby to substantially dissolve in the mixture whereby to come out of solution in the form of fine bubbles under pressure reduction occurring inside the separator (10).

A stream of particle-containing fluid (e.g. from coal gasification or combustion) can be cleaned and split by flowing it into and through the vortex of a cyclone in which an externally adjustable vortex stabilizing means is moved close enough to the outlet opening for the particle-depleted fluid to provide an outflow of such fluid having a selected volume or particle concentration.

A relatively more dense fraction of material is fed via interconnected outlet from one treatment compartment to the other treatment compartment for retreatment.
