Abstract: The invention is drawn to a retractable guard for use in a sewerage or drainage line having a plurality of prongs with hooked ends are disposed within a sewage pipe downstream of a toilet. The opposite ends of the prongs are connected to a tubular member which, in turn is slidable within a housing connected to the pipe. These prongs can be used to trap articles which can then be easily removed to rectify stoppage problems or prevent contraband from being distributed through the drainage lines. For convenience in cleaning, the guard device can also be provided with a quick-release connection which separates from the pipe with a simple twist. The prongs can also be magnetized to trap metal objects. The prongs may also be mounted on a pivoting shaft to enable mounting within an angled pipe. For convenience in inspection, the guard device can be provided with a clear portion to enable visual inspection of the interior of the guard device.

Abstract: A sewer lateral cleanout apparatus provides visual indication of an impending sewer backup, for installation on the cleanout riser of a sewer lateral, and includes a housing portion adapted for attachment to the cleanout riser; and a vertically movable piston portion slidably engaged within the housing. The piston includes a float member, a wall member, and a cap member, such that when sewage is not backed up into the cleanout riser, the wall is contained within the housing, and when sewage backs up into the cleanout riser, the float urges the piston to move vertically within the housing to reveal the wall, thereby alerting the user of a backup.

Abstract: A flood stopper system is used to prevent movement of fluid from a floor drain system out onto a floor that is being cleared by that drain system. The flood stopper system includes a balloon-like inflatable element that is automatically inflated to occlude the drain system in the event of a flood situation. The stopper system is located in the drain in a stand-by configuration and includes a float that covers a fluid-sensor and is only moved when a potential flood situation is present. Movement of the float permits fluid to contact the sensor and upon such contact, the sensor generates a signal that is used to fluidically connect a source of pressurized gas to the inflatable element to occlude the drain system.

Abstract: A sewer back-up alarm apparatus for placement in an existing sewer line connecting a residence to a sewage collection system, the alarm apparatus including a connection element connected into a sewer line, an adaptor attached to the connection element, a cap attached in air-tight and water-proof relationship to the adaptor, the adaptor also having an O-ring for sealing the cap to the adaptor, whereby backed up sewage in the sewer pipe forcibly ejects the cap from the adaptor and permits the backed up sewage to flow onto the ground, rather than into the residence; the back-up alarm system also includes first and second electrical conductors extending into the interior of the connection element for electrically contacting backed up sewage to produce reduced electrical resistance between the first and second conductors. An alarm circuit generates an alarm signal in response to a reduced resistance to actuate an audible buzzer.
