摘要: A heat exchanger including upper and lower header tanks, a vertical baffle in the lower header tank defining first and second longitudinal chambers, a check valve, two tube rows, and a coolant inlet to the first chamber and outlet from the second chamber. The baffle includes a by-pass hole therethrough. One tube row includes a plurality of vertical tubes extending between the upper header tank and the first chamber of the lower header tank, and the other tube row includes a plurality of vertical tubes extending between the upper header tank and the second chamber of the lower header tank. The check valve creates a leak-proof seal during standard operating mode to prevent pressure release from the header tank and creates an air path between the header tank and the environment during draining mode to allow vacuum relief from the header tank.

摘要: A two-phase liquid cooling system has a container structure that has at least one wall with sufficient flexibility that the wall expands as the coolant vapor expands thereby maintaining the internal container pressure substantially the same as the ambient environmental pressure. Coolant boiling overshoot is reduced by allowing residual gases to remain in the cooling system. More particularly, sufficient residual gas is maintained in the system so that some of the gas dissolves in the liquid coolant when the device is not operating and is at ambient temperature. During warmup, the residual gas comes out of solution and creates nucleation sites that initiate boiling and prevent overshoot. Additional nucleation sites can also be added to reduce overshoot by treating the inside surfaces of the container structure, for example by laser machining, to create nucleation sites.

摘要: This invention relates to method and apparatus used as an addition to any existing heating system--burning any fuel--for heat recovery from stacks and chimneys. It uses a suitable heat exchanger mounted at the apex of such stacks, by virtue of which location no natural draft is lost. The system includes a circulating pump, a thermostat, an expansion bottle, a condensate trough, a cap and dome which jointly serve to act as unloaders to protect the system liquid from being boiled off. Both sensible heat and the latent heats of moisture in the fuel and in the vapor produced as a combustion product, can be scrubbed out. The use is to effect economies and to reduce environmental contamination wherever fuels are fired.

摘要: A heat exchanger including a pressure vessel and a plurality of heat exchanger tubes extending within the vessel. A tube shroud forms an annular passage between the tubes and the pressure vessel wall. A partition wall, comprising a plurality of openings normally closed by closure means, divides the passage into a fluid inlet compartment and a fluid outlet compartment. In the event the fluid pressure differential between the inlet and outlet compartments attains a predetermined value, at least some of the closure means will open to reduce the pressure differential below the predetermined value. In one embodiment of the invention, the closure means comprise flap valves. In an alternate embodiment of the invention, rupture discs are utilized as closure means.

摘要: An apparatus for preventing the over-pressuring of a furnace which comprises a small diameter heat resistant tube inserted through the side of the furnace just below the convection section. A thermocouple is used to detect whether cool air is passing through the tube into the furnace because it is operating with a negative pressure or whether the pressure is positive and hot combustion gases are flowing out of the furnace. The change in temperature is detected and used to warn operating personnel of potential damage to the furnace. The temperature change may also be used to take some predetermined corrective action automatically.

摘要: 1,177,533. Generating steam by indirect heat transfer. JAPAN ATOMIC ENERGY RESEARCH INSTITUTE and NIPPON KOHKAN K.K. 13 Jan., 1967 [14 Jan., 1966], No. 1913/67. Heading F4A. Liquid sodium coolant from a nuclear reactor (not shown) is passed through vertical tubes 2 extending between inlet nozzle 1 and outlet nozzle 3 of a steam generator casing 7. Water from inlet 4 flows in counter current through vertical, zig-zag or helical tubes 5, the steam so generated emerging through nozzle 6. Heat is transferred between the tube systems 2, 5 by liquid sodium acting as a heat transmission medium, which is introduced at inlet 9 and removed through outlet 10, to maintain a surface level 11. The level 11 may be varied to vary the rate of heat transfer in accordance with the load demand. The top space of the generator body contains an inert gas introduced through nozzle 13 and removed through nozzle 14. One or more rupture discs 15 may be provided in the casing 7. The generator may be of the through flow or recirculation types. It is stated to be known to heat an intermediate fluid by the coolant from the reactor core, in a separate heat exchange vessel located within or without the vessel containing the reactor, and then to circulate this intermediate fluid over steam generating tubes contained in a further vessel (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown).
