摘要: A method and system for treating Presbyopia and pre-Presbyopia are provided that do not compromise the wearer's intermediate or distance vision. The system is a lens and a lens series, wherein the power profiles of the lenses are tailored to provide an amount of positive ADD power in the near vision zone that is slightly less than that which is normally required for near vision accommodation, while also providing an amount of negative spherical aberration in the peripheral optical zone. The dynamic ocular factors of the wearer's eye work in conjunction with the positive ADD power provided by the central optical zone and with the effective ADD gained from the negative spherical aberration provided by the peripheral optical zone to induce a minimally discernible amount of blur that is tuned to maximize the wearer's depth of focus.

摘要: Ophthalmic lenses for correcting astigmatism having a posterior surface with a central optic zone, a peripheral zone, and a blending zone therebetween. The surface of the central zone may be asphero-toric and the surface of the peripheral zone aspheric, with these flatter slopes smoothening out the transition between the central and peripheral zones. The blending zone gradually transitions the curvatures of the central and peripheral zones to further smoothen out the central-to-peripheral-zone transition.

摘要: A method and apparatus for increasing the depth of focus of the human eye is comprised of a lens body, an optic in the lens body configured to produce light interference, and a pinhole-like optical aperture substantially in the center of the optic. The optic may be configured to produce light scattering or composed of a light reflective material. Alternatively, the optic may increase the depth of focus via a combination of light interference, light scattering, light reflection and/or light absorption. The optic may also be configured as a series of concentric circles, a weave, a pattern of particles, or a pattern of curvatures. One method involves screening a patient for an ophthalmic lens using a pinhole screening device in the lens to increase the patient's depth of focus. Another method comprises surgically implanting a mask in the patient's eye to increase the depth of focus.

摘要: A contact lens (10) for use in controlling or retarding the progression of myopia in an eye has a central optical zone (20) approximating the normal diameter of the pupil of the eye (22) that gives clear central vision at distance for the wearer. An annular peripheral optical zone 24 that is substantially outside the diameter of the pupil is formed around the central optical zone (20) with greater refractive power than that of the central zone (22) so that oblique rays entering the eye through the peripheral optical zone (24) will be brought to focus at a focal plane that is substantially on or anterior to the peripheral region of the retina. Preferably, the rear surface (16) of the lens is shaped to conform to the cornea of the eye and the front surface (18) of the lens (10) is shaped to provide—in conjunction with the rear surface (16)—the desired optical properties of the central and peripheral optical zones. The front surface (18) is also preferably contoured to form a smooth transition (30) between the junction of the central optical zone (20) and the peripheral optical zone (24), with or without designed optical properties such as progressive power.

摘要: A contact lens formed from a transparent material having front and rear surfaces, wherein the rear surface has a base curve which is adapted to fit an eye of a wearer of the lens. The front surface has a central zone which has two different cylindrical curvatures which generate first and second central-zone refractive powers differing by an astigmatic factor. The front surface also has an outer zone with two different cylindrical curvatures which generate third and forth central-zone refractive powers differing by the astigmatic factor, and an intermediary region, intermediate the central zone and the outer zone, having one or more contiguous intermediates zones, each intermediate zone having cylindrical curvatures differing by the astigmatic factor. The refractive powers from the central zone to the outer zone form monotonic progressions of decreasing values.

摘要: An easy-to manufacture contact lens exhibiting an excellent axial stability and having a novel ballast mechanism. On the front surface (36) of the contact lens (30), (i) a circular front surface (38) forming an optical portion (44) and (ii) annular front surfaces (40, 42) forming peripheral portions (46, 48) are formed with a substantially constant radial dimension around the geometrical center axis (32) of the lens in the front view thereof. Cross-sectional shapes of the front surfaces (40, 42) at the peripheral parts are varied in the circumferential direction and the thickness at the peripheral portions (46, 48) is varied in the circumferential direction, thus shifting the center of gravity G of the contact lens (30) from the geometrical center axis (32) of the lens.

摘要: An ophthalmic lens includes an optical zone having a center and a spaced-apart periphery. The optical zone has a first corrective power range in a first region and a second corrective power range in an annular region surrounding the first optical zone. The second corrective power is corrective of spherical aberration of an eye. The optical zone has a power profile that gradually changes from the first corrective power to the second corrective power. A central progressive zone that provides intermediate vision correction may be applied to a central region of the lens. The progressive zone has a diameter that is less than or equal to the diameter of an aperture of a pupil when subjected to bright light.

摘要: The present invention provides a contact lens having an orientation feature that does not provide an prism optical distortion and can maintain a predetermined orientation of the lens on an eye. A contact lens of the invention comprises an anterior surface and an opposite posterior surface. The anterior surface includes a vertical meridian, a horizontal meridian, a central optical zone, a blending zone extending outwardly from the central optical zone, a peripheral zone surrounding the blending zone, and an edge zone circumscribing and tangent to the peripheral zone. The presence of the blending zone ensures that the peripheral zone, the blending zone and the central optical zone are tangent to each other. The peripheral zone has a surface that, in combination with the posterior surface, provides in the peripheral zone a lens thickness which is characterized (1) by having a lens thickness which increases progressively from the top of the lens downwardly along each of the vertical meridian and lines parallel to the vertical meridian until reaching a maximum value at a position between the optical zone and the edge zone and then decreases to the edge of the edge zone; or (2) by having a mirror symmetry with respect to a plane cutting through the vertical meridian, by having a substantially constant thickness in a region around the horizonal meridian and by having a thickness which decreases progressively from the horizontal meridian to the top or bottom of the contact lens along each of the vertical meridian and lines parallel to the vertical meridian.
