    Abstract: This rock picker invention is a towable farm implement which is capable of removing rocks from a farm field. A plurality of buckets scoop up quantities of soil as the rock picker is towed by a tractor. The buckets are mounted on a pair of cables which pass over guide wheels. The cables are forced to move by a power source so that the buckets are forced into, across and out of the ground. The guide wheels are mounted on axles on a conveyor frame which allows the buckets and cables to be lifted to a transport position and which allows the angle of attack between the buckets and the ground surface to be varied. The buckets are equipped with openings and shaped such that soil falls from the buckets when the buckets are lifted. The cables are guided such that the buckets are caused to invert and dump the rocks collected into a hopper. The hopper is equipped with a lifting linkage to allow transfer and disposal of rocks collected. The rock picker is equipped with forwardly mounted harrows and gathering sections that aid in the collection of rocks.

    Abstract: A two-row crop harvester for carrots, beets, etc. has a wheeled chassis with a forward cab disposed to one side of a pair of lifter frame assemblies. Each lifter frame assembly has a main component with a forwardly gathering element rigidly connected to a rearward mounting element. The rear end of the mounting element is pivotally mounted on a rocking frame, the lower end of which is pivoted about a horizontal axis on the main frame of the harvester. The main component of each lifter frame assembly mounts a relatively movable gathering component. The topping bar units have both their driven and idler ends supported by the main component of the lifter frame assembly. The rear drive pulleys for the gathering belts are chain driven from the drive shafts of the topping units and the latter are individually driven by hydraulic motors and articulated shafts with the motors geared together so that the topping bar units are synchronized.

    Abstract: A mobile device for harvesting tree seedlings includes means for subsurface cutting to separate and loosen from the surrounding ground the body of earth adjoining the roots of the tree seedlings. The movement and relative position of the earth separating means enables it to efficiently sever the roots of the tree seedlings from the surrounding ground while allowing only a minimum amount of earth to adhere to the roots of the seedlings as they are removed. A plurality of paired gripper belts remove the loosened seedlings by lifting them upwardly and rearwardly relative to the ground, each pair of gripper belts having male-female intercoupled gripping surfaces which minimize damage to the stems of the seedlings. Disposed below the gripper belts are a plurality of elongated root beater means adapted to move in a transverse oscillatory manner to agitate the roots and remove the earth adhering thereto without damaging the seedlings. A drive linkage mechanism controls the movement of the root beater means and balances the forces resulting therefrom to substantially reduce vibration in the harvester. Finally, an improved sheave structure for the gripper belt drive mechanism enables worn-out bearings to be readily replaced without replacing the entire sheave structure.

    Abstract: A control system for a harvesting machine for the simultaneous harvesting of a plurality of plurality spaced-apart rows of crops. The machine includes a plurality of separate harvesting mechanisms mechanically driven by a plurality of hydraulic fluid motors whose output torque is proportional to the pressure of the hydraulic fluid supplied thereto. A source of hydraulic fluid under a predetermined constant pressure is connected to the fluid motors by fluid supply and return lines to provide a closed hydraulic system with a pressure responsive bypass valve positioned in each of the supply lines and effective to bypass hydraulic fluid around the motors supplied by that line when the pressure on said valve exceeds said predetermined constant pressure. When one of said harvesting mechanism encounters a load, such as an obstruction, which exceeds the output torque of its associated motor, the consequent pressure increase in said fluid supply line will open a bypass valve to effectively stop said motors and their harvesting mechanisms controlled by that valve until said obstruction is removed. The machine may further include an improved remotely operable override means for opening said bypass valve.

The structure includes a rotary disc for chopping the crops, and a pair of rollers and a pair of feed screws for feeding crops to a work station located over the rotary disc. The pair of rollers, pair of feed screws, rotary disc, and blower all form a unitary structure adapted to be pulled by a tractor along the ground with the rotary disc situated closely adjacent to the ground. This rotary disc is provided at its outer periphery with cutting blades for cutting through the stalks of crops such as corn or the like.
