Abstract:
An arrangement is provided in a milking system for simultaneous milking of a plurality of milking animals, wherein the milking system comprises a plurality of milking positions (P1-P24) and an arrangement for establishing identities of and expected milking times for the milking animals. Each of the milking positions is provided with teat cups, which are attached to the teats of a milking animal and are connected to a source of vacuum to milk the milking animal. The inventive arrangement comprises means (10) for determining a milking position, at which the milking animal having the longest expected milking time is present, based on the established identities and expected milking times; and a device (11, 13, 17; 20) for performing an action with respect to the milking system in response to the determination.
Abstract:
In order to measure a milk flow, a device is proposed that has a channel that has an inlet and an outlet. At least two electrically conducting element are provided in the channel that are arranged at a distance from one another. At least one element has an essentially annular form. Furthermore, at least one element has an essentially pin-shaped form. With the aid of this design according to the invention of a device for the measurement of a milk stream, a relatively simple construction is achieved, which has a relatively high measuring accuracy.
Abstract:
A method is disclosed for calculating a transition monitor value for one or more milk-producing animals so as to enable its use in evaluating and optimally managing the health and productivity (i.e., the transition performance) of those individual animals and of their herds. An expected milk production is calculated for a given time period of a current lactation based both on the individual's performance in her previous lactation and on her current state. Transition monitor values are calculated as the difference between actual and expected milk production values. The transition monitor values can then be used to evaluate and to optimize the health and productivity of both individuals and herds of individuals and to make comparisons of transition monitor programs both within and between herds.
Abstract:
A system for observing and predicting a physiological state of an animal has been provided. The system includes a computer including a processor and being operatively connected to a database, at least one sample providing device for repetitively providing at least one sample of a body fluid of the animal, an analysis apparatus for analyzing the at least one sample, so as to obtain at least one sample value of at least one parameter of the body fluid, a data interface for repetitively entering the sample value of the at least one parameter in the database, where the database is adapted to store multiple database entries representing the sample value of the at least one parameter at various points in time, and where the processor is programmed to: perform at least one mathematical analysis of the at least one sample value, and selecting, on the basis of the at least one mathematical analysis, the point in time for providing a subsequent sample and performing a subsequent analysis of the subsequent sample for at least one of the parameters.
Abstract:
Apparatus for removing milk from a teat of an animal comprising an outer body having an opening into which the teat is insertable into a space defined by two or more resilient membranes. A pressure difference is applied between the space between the resilient membranes and a region outside the membranes to cause the membranes to ball on to the teat, thereby massaging it to extract milk. To avoid exerting excessive force on the end of the teat yet retain a useful massage pressure, the resilient membranes are under tension in a direction transverse to the direction of teat insertion before the provision of any pressure difference (before the insertion of the teat).

Abstract:
A milking system for animals. In particular, the present invention relates to a milking system implantable within the teat of an animal which provides improved milking rapidity and decreased mastitis incidence.
Abstract:
Device for pneumatically milking a cow, comprising a number of milk extractors, each comprising a teat cup as well as milk line connected to the lower end of the teat cup, which line leads from the teat cup to a collection chamber for the milk from the teat cup, each milk extractor being provided with a supply for a cleansing medium, such as a disinfectant, to the teat cup, in particular to a teat present in the teat cup, the supply comprising a line having an end portion with discharge end, and each milk extractor being provided with means for closing off the passage of the milk extraction at or downstream of the discharge end of the line for cleansing medium, preferably at that level, when discharging the cleansing medium, the closing means comprising a reciprocating closing body that can be moved between a position leaving the passage of the milk extractor free and a position closing it off, the closing body being provided with a squirt line forming the end portion with discharge end of the line for supply of cleansing medium, and being positioned to debouch into the milk extractor, particularly the milk line, when in the closing-off position
Abstract:
A milking installation comprises a compressed air system with a compressed air line, a pneumatically controllable cylinder and a compressed air pump for supplying compressed air for the cylinder. The compressed air system comprises a dew point sensor for measuring the dew point of the compressed air and for emitting a dew point signal that is representative of the dew point. The milking installation may comprise or form part of a milking robot for automatically connecting teat cups to the teats of a dairy animal.
Abstract:
In a hog production plant the hogs are divided into a series of separate pens within the hog plant based generally on weight such that the lightest hogs closest to the initial weight are arranged in the first pen when the arrive and the heaviest hogs closest to the final market weight are arranged in the last pen. Each pen includes a sorting scale arranged to receive a hog therein and to weigh the hog for selection of one of two outlet paths leading to the next pen of the series or, in respect of the last pen, to a discharge location. A control unit for the system is arranged such that a required number of hogs to be removed from the last of the pens for market, the required number being less than the total number of hogs in the last pen and less than the total number of hogs in each of the other pens of the series is set and the sorter operated to remove the required number of hogs from the last pen and to transfer from each pen to the next of the series substantially the same number so as to maintain the numbers of hogs in the pens substantially constant.
