Abstract:
A hitch pin retainer assembly that prevents unintended displacement of a shear pin from a trailer hitch includes a hitch plate assembly having a base plate formed with an aperture adapted to receive the shear pin assembly. The hitch plate assembly also includes a latch plate having a retainer ledge that carries a latch assembly that incorporates a receptacle projecting from the latch plate that captures a spring biased, slidable latch pin that is sized to extend, when in an extended position, above the shear pin. The latch pin is also formed with a handle at one end. The hitch pin retainer assembly can be either bolted or welded to an existing trailer hitch and also includes a tether that can be attached to the shear pin to prevent accidental loss.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a trailer hitch receiver including a main frame member, a hitch receiver box carried on the main frame member and a pair of opposed mounting brackets. Each of the opposed mounting brackets includes a first mounting arrangement or series of apertures that secures the mounting brackets to the main frame member in a first position and a second mounting arrangement or second set of mounting apertures for securing the mounting brackets to main frame member in a second position. Additionally, each mounting bracket includes a notch in the forward edge thereof which provides the necessary clearance for mounting the mounting brackets inboard of mounting flanges carried by the main frame member. Accordingly, the mounting brackets may also be mounted in an inboard or outboard position as necessary to meet the needs of any particular application.
Abstract:
A hitch coupler (10) including an E-shaped frame (11), a pin (30) and a conical spring (36). The frame (11) includes a back plate (12), a top plate (14), a middle plate (16) and a bottom plate (18). The top (14), middle (16) and the bottom (18) plates include aligned openings. The pin (30) extends through the aligned holes (21, 23, 27) in the top (14), middle (16) and bottom (18) plates, with the pin (30) being configured to slide within the aligned openings (21, 23, 27). The conical spring (36) surrounds and engages the pin (30). The conical spring (36) biases a bottom of the pin (30) through the middle plate (16) and the bottom plate (18). The pin (30) includes a retainer (38) that extends through a slot (37) in the top plate (14) as the pin (30) is pulled against the bias of the spring (36). The retainer (38) abuts against a top of the top plate (14) when the retainer (38) is located above the top plate (14). The retainer (38) is located between the pin (30) and the spring (36).
Abstract:
A bumper assembly for a motor vehicle includes a bumper structure having a bumper beam adapted for attachment to a structure of a motor vehicle such as a frame or rails, or the like. A hitch is attached to the bumper beam, and a bumper cover conceals the bumper beam. The bumper cover has an opening for accessing the hitch and an access door for selectively concealing the hitch. The access door is mounted to the bumper structure such that the access door will be retained upon the bumper structure not only when the access door is concealing the hitch but also when the access door is open to allow an accessory such as a trailer to be coupled to the hitch.
Abstract:
A trailer stability control apparatus for a vehicle and a trailer includes a trailer hitch assembly interconnecting a rear end of the vehicle and a front end of the trailer. The trailer stability control apparatus also includes at least one controllable damper connected to the trailer hitch assembly. The trailer stability control apparatus further includes a controller electrically connected to the at least one controllable damper for providing continuously controllable damping forces between the vehicle and the trailer.
Abstract:
A trailer hitching apparatus comprises a trailer hitch receiver assembly, a winching device, a trailer hitch and a cable. The trailer hitch receiver assembly includes a receiver tube having a first end, a second end, an opening at the second end, and a passage extending from the opening toward the first end. The cable extends through the opening. The trailer hitch receiver assembly is mountable on a chassis of a vehicle. The winching device is mountable on at least one of the chassis of the vehicle and the trailer hitch receiver assembly. The trailer hitch includes a receiver stub configured for being engaged within the receiver tube through the opening at the second end of the receiver tube. The cable has a first end attached to a spool of the winching device and a second end attached to the receiver stub of the trailer hitch. When the cable is wound onto the spool of the winch, while the receiver stub of the trailer hitch is correspondingly pulling into the passage of the receiver tube, thereby engaging the trailer hitch within the trailer hitch receiver assembly.
Abstract:
The present invention consists of an improved device for aligning a vehicle trailer hitch to the coupling member of trailer. In one preferred embodiment of the device, a pair of vertical guide rods, one for the vehicle hitch and the other for the trailer coupling member, are provided with gimbal means so that the vertical guide rods remain perfectly vertical, regardless of grade or altitude of the vehicle hitch or trailer coupling member. The trailer hitch guide assembly is provided with a sleeve which may slidingly be received over a ball hitch. A counterweight is disposed at the lower end of the hitch's vertical guide rod. An elongate sleeve is place over the upper portion of the hitch's vertical guide rod and is held in place initially by a small notch located over the hitch ball. A second counter weight is provided for the lower end of the trailer coupling member's guide rod and the trailer coupling gimbal guide assembly is removably secured to the trailer coupling member by means of a magnet and an aperture adapted to slidingly fit over the coupling member. In such a manner, when the trailer hitch ball is in perfect alignment with the coupling member, the elongate sleeve will drop down several inches, revealing a brightly colored guide rod, indicating perfect alignment to the user of the device.
Abstract:
A trailer hitch having a tubular column between a hitch ball and a towing vehicle. A mating shaft with a horizontal retaining plate has a mating shaft fitting removably within the tubular column. A pin through mating openings in the shaft and tubular column maintain the retaining plate above a trailer arm socket mounted on the hitch ball. A guide with a pair of tapered vertical walls forming a horizontal V-shape has a mating shaft which fits alternately in the tubular column to guide a trailer arm into engagement with the hitch ball.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method to facilitate the connection and disconnection of a towed vehicle (trailer, implement of husbandry, sled, industrial conveyance, etc.) to a towing vehicle. The apparatus provided has a power unit attached to one end of a flexible material line. At the opposite end of this line is a member designed to engage a complimentary member mounted on the towing vehicle. The line passes through an apparatus designed to govern and direct the energy from the power unit in such a way as to execute complete control of the ranges, degrees and extents of motion of the trailer coupler until it completely encompasses the ball.
