    Abstract: Narrow width fiber optic connectors having spring loaded remote release mechanisms to facilitate access and usage of the connectors in high density arrays. A narrow width fiber optic connector comprises a multi-fiber connector, wherein a width of said narrow width fiber optic connector is less than about 5.25 mm, a housing configured to hold the multi-fiber connector and further comprising a connector recess, and a pull tab having a ramp area configured to disengage a latch of one of an adapter and an SFP from said connector recess. The pull tab may include a spring configured to allow the latch of one of the adapter and the SFP to engage with the connector recess.

    Abstract: Connector assemblies having an adjustable polarity are described. A connector assembly comprises a frame comprising a single housing having top and bottom frame components, first and second plug frames located within the housing, a first ferrule located in the first plug frame, a second ferrule located in the second plug frame, and a latch component attached to the top or bottom frame component, the latch component having at least one compression element. The latch component is configured to rotate around the housing when the at least one compression element is compressed to change the polarity of the connector assembly from a first polarity when the latch component is located at a first polarity position to a second polarity when the latch component is located at a second polarity position.

    Abstract: A behind-the-wall optical connector includes a ferrule having an annular collar projecting outwardly from a section of the ferrule and a plug frame receiving the ferrule in a central bore thereof, the plug frame including one or more resiliently-biased latches for gripping the ferrule annular collar to retain the ferrule within the plug frame. The optical connector may be fabricated inexpensively due to the low number of components. An optional boot may be provided. An insertion tool for assembling the optical connector is also described.

    Abstract: Reduced-profile connection components are described. The reduced-profile connection components are configured to connect various data transmission elements, including cables, network devices, and computing devices. A non-limiting example of a connection component includes a fiber optic connection component, including connectors, adapters, and assemblies formed therefrom. In some embodiments, the connection components may include mechanical transfer (MT) and multi-fiber push-on/pull-off (MPO) connection components, such as MT ferrules and MPO adapters. The reduced-profile connection components configured according to some embodiments have a smaller profile and/or require less parts to achieve a connection compared to conventional connection components. In some embodiments, the reduced-profile connection components may be used with conventional connection components. For example a reduced-profile connector may use a conventional MT ferrule to establish a connection within a conventional MPO adapter.

    Abstract: An optical connector holding two or more LC-type optical ferrules is provided. The optical connector includes an outer body, an inner front body accommodating the two or more LC-type optical ferrules, ferrule springs for urging the optical ferrules towards a mating receptacle, and a back body for supporting the ferrule springs. The outer body and the inner front body are configured such that four LC-type optical ferrules are accommodated in a small form-factor pluggable (SFP) transceiver footprint or eight LC-type optical ferrules are accommodated in a quad small form-factor pluggable (QSFP) transceiver footprint. A mating receptacle (transceiver or adapter) includes a receptacle hook and a housing with an opening that accommodates the receptacle hook in a flexed position as the optical connector makes connection with the mating receptacle by introducing the receptacle hook into an optical receptacle hook recess.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a circuit board-mounted optical interconnection system comprising a mounting bracket for holding a board-based first optical connector ferrule; a ferrule alignment housing for mating the first optical connector ferrule with a second optical connector ferrule to form a mated ferrule sub-assembly; wherein the mounting bracket comprises a pair of curved portions; the mated ferrule sub-assembly comprises one or more pivoting features for engaging with the curved portions such that the mated ferrule sub-assembly is rotatable with respect to the mounting bracket. The present invention makes mating and un-mating of the connector ferrules easier, particularly in confined working spaces as with racks in telecommunication cabinets.

A connector includes a flat pin assembly including a pin, a mechanical transfer ferrule boot disposed around at least a portion of the assembly, a housing disposed around at least a portion of the ferrule, and a low profile key. The housing includes first, second, top, and bottom sides. The first and second sides include a recess. The top side includes a groove. The low profile key includes a fastening mechanism configured to interlock with the groove. An optical fiber adapter includes first and second adapter ends each having one or more connecting arms.     Abstract: A multiple fiber push-on (MPO) optical connector is provided having a ferrule configured to house multiple optical fibers and including a stepped portion extending from at least one pair of opposing exterior surfaces of the ferrule. A one-piece housing-backpost is provided having a distal end in a connection direction and a proximal end in a cable direction. The one-piece housing-backpost is configured to receive a ferrule spring and the ferrule from the distal end. The housing-backpost includes at least one resiliently-deformable ferrule-retaining protrusion extending from a sidewall to engage a corresponding stepped portion of the ferrule. The resiliently-deformable ferrule-retaining protrusion is configured to deform towards the housing-backpost interior sidewall as the ferrule is inserted from the distal end and to extend outward against the stepped portion of the ferrule when the ferrule is seated in the housing-backpost to maintain the ferrule in the housing-backpost.
