    摘要: A base station is configured to reduce interference with other base stations and/or devices in a multi-cell wireless network. The base station includes a wireless interface, detector and controller. To reduce interference, the wireless interface may provide services to a first wireless communication device (WCD) using a pilot signal emitted from the base station at a reduced power level. In the reduced pilot signal mode, when the detector detects a second WCD within the base station's service area, the controller increases the pilot signal's power level above the reduced power level in order to establish communications with the second WCD. Upon successfully connecting to the first and second WCDs, the base station may again reduce the pilot signal's power level to reduce interference with other base stations or wireless devices.

Incoming signals are received through the receive diversity antenna system and outgoing signals are transmitted through the configurable antenna arrangement. A controller generates control signals to adjust the configurable antenna arrangement to change the transmission performance characteristics of the configurable antenna arrangement. The configurable antenna arrangement may be a smart antenna, a plurality of antennas, or a configurable antenna where transmission characteristics change in response to control signals.

    摘要: Wireless communication device tuning an antenna matching circuit responsive to a receive signal quality indicator and, optionally, responsive to a failed access probe is provided. Systems and methods are provided that increase the antenna efficiency in either the transmit frequency or the receive frequency in an idle or access state as needed, based on fading conditions, non-ideal antenna efficiency balance, mobile station forward versus reverse link usage and system forward versus reverse link usage. The antenna efficiency may be changed incrementally or may be optimized completely for the transmit frequency or the receive frequency. The re-balancing is accomplished by tuning the antenna matching circuit. One way to tune the antenna matching circuit is to apply a voltage to a ferro-electric capacitor in the matching circuit, thereby changing the capacitance of the ferro-electric capacitor, thereby changing the impedance of the matching circuit.

    摘要: A system and method are provided for efficient push-to-talk (PTT) communications in a cellular network of wireless telephones. The method comprises the steps of: receiving a PTT session initiation in a cellular wireless telephone network; identifying a plurality of common PTT session mobile stations in close proximity as a group; assigning a shared forward link channel to the group; and transmitting a PTT statement on the shared channel via the forward link. The shared channel can be a shared traffic channel or a common channel, such as a broadcast channel, forward common control channel, or paging channel. The shared forward link channel may be in either a circuit-switched or IP packet data system. Further, the shared forward link channel, in addition to including a shared forward fundamental channel, may also include a shared forward supplemental channel.

    摘要: An apparatus, system, and method dynamically adjust an antenna network frequency response in accordance with an operation mode of a half duplex call. One of a plurality of antenna network configurations is selected based at least partly on the half duplex operation mode which comprises a talk mode and a listen mode. When the portable communication device is in a listen mode, the antenna network is tuned to a reception configuration which results in a reception efficiency that is greater for at least a portion of a reception frequency band than the reception efficiency resulting from at least one other antenna network configuration. The antenna network is maintained in a default configuration unless antenna adjustment conditions are met. In some situations, the antenna network is set to a transmission configuration to improve transmission efficiency relative to the default configuration.

Systems and methods are provided that increase the antenna efficiency in the receive band when the wireless communication device is searching for a synchronization message in order to acquire a communication channel. The antenna efficiency may be changed incrementally or may be optimized completely for the receive frequency. The increase in antenna efficiency in the receive band is accomplished by tuning the antenna matching circuit.
