The invention is concerned with a magnetic recording/playback apparatus in which a magnetic tape is pulled out from a tape cassette and wound around a cylindrical rotary head cylinder, having a rotary head built therein, over a predetermined angle to record/playback signals through the rotary head, and more particularly, with a tape guide post driving mechanism, a pinch roller pressing mechanism and a tension servo mechanism. Specifically, the invention provides a tape guide post driving device which can reduce the size, weight and thickness of the apparatus by ensuring a large angle of rotation of a rotating member, which includes a tension arm, in a direct manner. Also, the invention realizes a pinch roller pressing mechanism in which a sufficient stroke can be obtained even when a cam gear is reduced in its diameter and can provide a sufficient stroke even with a small amount of rotation. Further, the invention prolongs the service life and achieves a remarkable reduction in both the number of parts used and the number of assembling steps by using a pad brake (brake member), instead of a band brake, for braking a rotating member and bringing the brake member into full contact over the former's entire surface with the member being braked.

A loading mechanism for a magnetic recording/playback apparatus provides a positioning mechanism which can reliably and fixedly position a loading boat with a quite simple structure when completing an operation of withdrawing a magnetic tape. The invention also provides a loading post driving and pressing device which can eliminate the need of using a two-staged gear fitted with a spring, position two loading posts under pressing by one urging device, and realize reduction of the size, weight and thickness. The invention further provides a loading post driving device in which a gear serving as a prime mover part has the two-stages structure to realize reduction of the size, weight and height, and driving force can be directly transmitted from the gear serving as a prime mover part to a large loading gear by using no geneva gear.

A cassette loading device is compact, lightweight, thin and used in a video tape player or the like. An opening lever is pivotally mounted on a stand, and is engaged in a cam groove with a top plate. With this arrangement, the opening lever is accommodated within a longitudinal dimension of a cassette, and therefore the loading device in the direction of the longitudinal dimension of the cassette can be greatly reduced. The cassette is moved through the pivotal movement of the top plate and arms, and with this arrangement operating switches and so on can be easily mounted on a plane of projection of the top plate. Therefore, the positional stability of the cassette loading device can be achieved, and the number of component parts can be reduced, thereby achieving a compact, lightweight construction of the cassette loading device.

As compared to the case when the thermoelectric elements are arranged in the center of the opposing surface, when the thermoelectric elements are arranged in the region excluding the center region of the opposing surface, the thermoelectric element serving as a reference point of warp is positioned at an outer circumference side, i.e., the distance between the warp reference point and the outer circumference of the substrate becomes shorter. As the distance between the warp reference point and the outer circumference of the substrate becomes shorter, the displacement amount and the force of the warp caused at the outer circumference of the substrate become smaller. Moreover, when the thermoelectric elements are arranged with a high density, the force of each of the thermoelectric elements pulled by the substrate warp becomes smaller. Thus, by reducing the displacement amount and the force of the warp generated at the outer circumference of the substrate, it is possible to prevent a damage of the thermoelectric elements caused by the substrate warp.
