摘要: A defibrillator electrode system. In the preferred embodiments, each electrode and the conductor leading to the instrument (such as the defibrillator or ECG monitor) is mounted on the same flexible substrate. In one two-electrode system embodiment, each electrode-conductor pair is mounted on a separate flexible substrate, and the two substrates are mounted in a retainer. In another preferred two-electrode system embodiment, the two electrode-conductor pairs are mounted on the same flexible substrate. In both embodiments, the retainer attaches to the instrument and provides the electrical connection between the conductors and the instrument. Conductive gel covers the electrodes in the preferred embodiments, and an adhesive surrounds the electrodes. The flexible substrate is provided with a release coating in appropriate spots. In their undeployed storage positions, the electrodes' conductive gel portions and adhesive portions lie against the release coating. During deployment, the conductive gel and adhesive peel away from the release coating. This arrangement minimizes the number of steps required in deploying defibrillator electrodes and preserves the integrity of the electrodes during storage.

摘要: A biomedical "tab" type of electrode suited for use with male and female connectors of the type that are adapted to snap together is provided. The female connector is located at one end of a lead wire. A male snap connector is secured to the lead wire by means of a flexible tether. The electrode includes an extension or tab having an opening therein. The tether is mounted on the lead wire and is preferably adapted to slide along its length. During use, the male snap connector can be moved into proximity of the female connector and aligned with it on opposite sides of the tab portion of the electrode and then brought into contact and connected to each other through the opening in the tab to establish both a mechanical and an electrical connection with the tab of the electrode.

摘要: A defibrillator cable is provided in two separate embodiments. In one embodiment, the conventional paddles and their associated leads are replaced by the present defibrillator cable, which includes a discharge control device in the cable. In the other embodiment, a paddle adapter module is provided to permit use of the conventional paddles with the electrode set of the present invention. This paddle adapter has a pair of conducting plates against which the paddles may be pressed to complete an electrical conducting path for the defibrillator signals. An audible alarm is provided to let the operator known when appropriate contact between the paddles and the adapter plates has been achieved, as well as to warn other personnel that a high energy shock is to be applied. The paddle adapter may also be provided with an ECG output terminal connected to the defibrillator leads and provided with high voltage protection, a low pass filter and a body tissue impedance simulating circuit. In both embodiments, an extra pair of leads may be provided for an ECG-only connection that permits the use of smaller monitoring electrodes until defibrillation is required.

摘要: An electrode (10) adapted for external heart stimulation, and a connector (52) therefor. The electrode includes a first conductive member (14) having a sheet-like configuration and an area resistivity of at least 0.003 ohm-cm.sup.2, and a second conductive member (16) having a sheet-like configuration, and having one surface in contact with the first conductive member and a second surface adapted to engage the patient's skin. Current is introduced at a centrally located portion of the first conductive member. The second conductive member has an area resistivity greater than the area resistivity of the first conductive member, such that the first conductive member acts as a distributor to distribute current density over the area of the electrode. The connector apparatus includes a conductive post (30) from the electrode, a connector having a body shape to form a socket (56), an opening through which the post can extend into the socket, a plurality of outwardly projecting rings encircling the opening, and adhesive means (48) for adhesively connecting the rings to the surface of the electrode adjacent the post.

摘要: An electrical connector for providing electrical connection between a pair of electrical conductor leads, each having a ring terminal, and an electrically conductive connection tab of a medical electrode, including a pair of engagement holes, includes upper and lower connector portions which are permanently secured together, as by sonic welding, to hold the ring terminals in contact with the connection tab. The ring terminals are secured on posts where extend from one of the connector portions through engagement holes in the tab. Ribs on the posts hold the ring terminals in position during assembly of the connector. The connector includes outwardly curved surfaces adjacent an access opening for the conductor leads so as to transmit a portion of a force, which may be applied to the leads, to the connector and to relieve the terminals of a portion of such force.

摘要: A heart monitor and defibrillator device, which can be worn by high risk patients with only minimal interference with normal daily activities, in which one pocket-size unit contains a heart monitor and microprocessor and a second pocket-size unit contains defibrillation circuitry. ECG electrodes are attached to the patient to sense heart impulses and transmit the impulses to the first unit, which analyzes the heart beat and determines if defibrillation is required. The second unit administers the defibrillating shock when required and has a built-in delay so that the wearer is warned to prepare for defibrillation. Several defibrillation shocks may be administered at spaced intervals. The defibrillation electrodes include layers of electrically conductive, skin adhering paint having low contact resistance, and the electrodes may be moved by the patient to prevent skin irritation in the electrode site.

摘要: A disposable electrode includes a fabric backing and a conductive mesh layer laminated thereto. A conductive polymer adhesive interfaces the conductive mesh with the skin of the patient. In order to promote uniform current density, connection to external apparatus occurs by means of a stranded wire which meets the mesh at a point and extends laterally therefrom along the electrode, intermediate the mesh and the adhesive.
