摘要: Upon receipt of a synchronization request from the CPU, the AAL1 device of the act system causes its cell forming section to extract the allocation position information for the SAR-PDU payload about a particular time slot in the current frame and, via the synchronization information send/receive section, transfers the information to the AAL1 device of the standby system. The AAL1 device of the standby system causes its operation processing section to calculate the allocation position of a particular time slot in the next frame for the SAR-PDU payload based on the above allocation position information. The AAL1 device of the standby system starts allocation of the data of and following a particular time slot of the next frame to the SAR-PDU payload starting from the position indicated by the calculation result.

摘要: In a connection oriented mode communication system, a communication connection is established as an alternative connection substitutive for a currently working communication connection so that the alternative connection connects the couple of node apparatus connected through the currently working communication connection to each other by way of a route physically different from that of the currently working communication connection. According to the above arrangement, it becomes possible to carry out maintenance, moving of facility or the like of a network including the currently working connection without interrupting the service which is provided through the currently working connection.

摘要: To obviate inefficient use of bandwidth in a packetised system, such as a broadband ATM domain, the use or amount of header information sent in relation to a channel is restricted by one of two principal mechanisms, as exemplified in FIGS. 3 and 4. First, control information incident to a packet interface (20) is interrogated by a processor (21) to determine (50) packet length requirements. A packet length indicator is then generated (52) for inclusion within a header (44) of a packet. Alternatively, a frame (30) is pre-partitioned (60) into several packets (32-42) having different lengths. An addressed subscriber unit (28) is allocated (64) a particular channel, i.e. at least one particular packet within the frame (30), based on data throughput requirements (62), whereby the location of the packet within the frame inherently identifies the length of the packet. Optionally, the data rate used within that packet may also be identified inherently by the location of the packet within the frame (30).

摘要: A system and method for transporting telephony signals across an ATM network using AAL1 while eliminating the jitter associated with the AAL1 cells. The present invention uses starve/inspect techniques to dynamically buffer the ATM frames such that jitter associated with the cells can be reduced while avoiding unneeded buffering that would cause excessive delay.

摘要: An ATM video telephone terminal interworking with ISDN is provided for circuit switching network emulation on AAL-5 for a video telephone service. The ATM video telephone terminal includes a circuit switching network emulation portion. In the circuit switching network emulation portion, ATM transmission and reception cell buffers are connected to a network interface card by a personal computer peripheral component interconnect (PC PCI) bus and connected to a video telephone media portion, for buffering video telephone data transmitted and received between the network interface card and the video telephone media portion. A half fill detector determines whether the ATM reception cell buffer is half filled by received cell. A counter periodically counts reference clock pulses for cell clock generation up to an externally controllable maximum count value. A cell clock generator generates a cell clock signal upon completion of counting the reference clock pulses up to the maximum count value in the counter, provides the cell clock signal to the ATM transmission and reception cell buffers, and controls the maximum count value of the counter depending on the determination of the half fill detector.

摘要: An ATM cell constructor (100) of an ATM transmitter assembles a stream of frames of constant bit-rate traffic received on a listen TDM bus (102) into cell payloads (1104) using ATM adaptation layer 1 (AAL1). Once every eight cells, the AAL1 structured data transfer (SDT) cell constructor layer (112) introduces a one-octet SDT offset pointer (1120) into the payload. This pointer designates traffic-block (TDM frame) boundaries. The payload with an attached ATM header forms an ATM cell, and the constructor transmits a stream of the ATM cells to an ATM cell deconstructor (2100) of an ATM receiver. The deconstructor disassembles the payloads of the received ATM cells and transmits the stream of frames of constant bit-rate traffic on a talk TDM bus (102). In response to each received SDT offset pointer, the deconstructor's time slot interchanger (TSI 2108) resets to the start of frame-processing, thereby aligning frames formed by the TSI with the received frames. The deconstructor (2100:2104) detects occurrence of TDM frames on the talk TDM bus and synchronizes (aligns) transmission of the frames formed by the TSI with the TDM frames on the talk TDM bus. The listen and talk TDM buses are thereby synchronized with each other.
