摘要： A bowler's accessory comprising a chalk element disposed within a chalk holder with cap ends is provided. The chalk holder includes a cylindrical tube having a wall, a top opening and a bottom opening. Cap elements are designed to slidingly interfit into the top opening and the bottom opening. The chalk element further has a top side and a bottom side. The chalk element is positioned near the middle of the tube, with the top side and the bottom side of the chalk element being about equal distance to the top opening of the tube and the bottom opening of the tube. The chalk element may be press fitted, adhered to, or in some other fashion affixed to this location within the cylindrical tube. The distance from both the top side of the cylindrical tube and the bottom side of the cylindrical tube is sufficient to permit the cap elements to slidingly interfit in both the top opening and the bottom opening of the cylindrical tube. The chalk element further has an aperture passing through about the center of the chalk element from the top side to the bottom side. This configuration permits fingers or other objects to be placed inside the tube, and further inside the chalk element's aperture, where they are to be coated with chalk. This permits the bowler to have greater control over the release of the bowling ball during the game.

The method includes the steps of making the curtain (100) in at least two sections (112,114,116) including at least one relatively short, easily removable section (112,116) adjacent the approach (18) and placing indicia (118,120) on the short section (112,116) to be exposed to the user of the lane when the rail (32) is in the first position.

摘要： A bumper bowling system is provided that eliminates the function of bowling lane gutters and uses bumpers to maintain a bowling ball within the confines of a bowling lane through to contact with the bowling pins. The bumper bowling system provides hardware, electronic circuitry, and software modifications in conjunction with scoring displays to provide a system of original manufacture or retrofit for existing automatic bowling scoring systems. Specifically, the system provides a bumper, a means for detecting when a ball strikes the bumper and at what location, a signalling display means generally running parallel to the bumper and the detection means, and the hardware necessary to position these devices along the length of each side of a standard bowling lane. In addition, the system utilizes appropriate circuitry for interfacing both the sensor means and the light display means with standard scoring control units. The hardware of the system allows for the use of targets in modifying the standard method of play for bowling. A variety of game play methods are disclosed which utilize to a greater or lesser extent the target display and sensor contact capabilities of the system.

摘要： An improved bowling lane, which is convertible from a form suitable for conventional bowling to a form suitable for bumper (carom) bowling, includes a series of lane cross-supports, a bowling bed having an approach and foul line at one end and a pin deck at the other end thereof; an elongated concave gutter abutting each side of the bed; an elongated channel within each said gutter disposed parallel to and a distance of less than one-half the diameter of a bowling ball from the edge of said bed; rigid elongated members slidably disposed within each channel; and, means to raise and lower said rigid elongated members.In the preferred embodiment the improved bowling lane has elongated channels disposed within each gutter, abutting the lateral edges of the bowling bed. Slidably disposed in said channels are rigid elongated members having an upper surface of a matching color and contour of the gutter. In said preferred embodiment, the lower surface of said elements are notched at intersecting cross-supports, on which said elements rest. At least one side of each notch is sloped so that longitudinal movement of said elements, within the elongated channel, causes the elements to slide upward on said cross-supports, into a position suitable for bumper bowling.

摘要： An automatic pin setter includes a pinsetting deck structure movable toward and away from a pin supporting surface on a bowling lane for controlling setting of bowling pins on the lane supporting surface. A rake sweeps pins from the lanes. A rake up switch senses if the rake is in a raised position. A drive system is operatively coupled to the deck structure and rake and includes a cycle solenoid, the drive system for controlling an automatic pin setter cycle in response to energization of the solenoid. The pinsetter cycle controls movement of the deck structure and the rake to selectively remove or set pins on the lane. A pit cushion is positioned at a rear end of the lane and is linked to the rake to lower the rake from the raised position when a thrown ball strikes the pit cushion. A control comprises a ball sensor mounted on the lane before the pit cushion for sensing presence of a ball on the lane and developing an electrical trigger signal in response thereto. A ball selector selects if a thrown ball is a first or second ball thrown in a bowling frame. A pin setter trigger control is electrically connected to the rake up switch, the ball sensor, the ball selector and the cycle solenoid. The trigger control includes a trigger mode for automatically energizing the cycle solenoid to initiate a pinsetter cycle after either the rake up switch senses that the rake is not in the raised position or the ball sensor has sensed presence of a ball on the lane. A time delay delays operation of the trigger mode if the ball is the first ball thrown.

摘要： A new and improved bowling ramp useful for acceleration and directional control of a bowling ball by handicapped, disabled, weak and infirm persons of all ages includes a sloping guide track having a lower end adapted to rest on a bowling alley surface and an upper end having a horizontal segment adapted to support a bowling ball at rest. Portable legs are pivotally interconnected at their upper ends to support the upper end of the guide track and a lower end of each leg is adapted to engage the bowling surface in non-slipping engagement to provide lateral stability. The sloping guide track includes a frictional web surface on the downwardly sloping rails of the guide track for causing the bowling ball to spin and provide gyroscopic stability for the bowling ball as it is discharged down the ramp.

The ramp includes supporting means, positioning and accelerating means, and means for aiming a bowling ball to target specific pins. The supporting means includes a number of interconnected components and flaps. The positioning and accelerating means includes first and second sloped parallel rails. The rails are sloped such as to prevent a ball from accidentally rolling down a ramp before the bowler intends to release the ball. The aiming means includes a clamp assembly that allows the bowler to reposition the ramp to target specific pins without shifting the entire ramp.
