Abstract: According to one embodiment, a particle beam control system comprising: a control computer configured to control two scanning electromagnets, wherein the control computer is configured to: calculate deviation amount between a centroid position and a spot position that is a designed irradiation position of the two scanning electromagnets; calculate at least one correction value for correcting the centroid position to the spot position by using the deviation amount; store the at least one correction value in a memory; and correct at least one current value by using the at least one correction value stored in the memory, the at least one current value being a design reference when power is supplied from at least one of two power supplies to at least one of the two scanning electromagnets.

Abstract: A gantry is provided for focusing beams of charged particles having differing momentum to charge ratios to a substantially common point. The gantry comprises at least one toroidal magnet having a central bore and a primary axis extending along the central bore and configured to receive beams of charged particles at different radial locations dependent on the momentum to charge ratio of the beam. The toroidal magnet comprises a plurality of discrete, substantially planar coils spaced apart and extending radially from the primary axis and configured to produce a magnetic field that is periodically symmetric about the primary axis.

Abstract: There is disclosed a vehicle (100) and a method for propelling the vehicle comprising a propulsion arrangement (102). The propulsion arrangement (102) includes a chamber arrangement (104) that is configured to store antimatter therein by using magnetic and/or electrostatic fields. The chamber arrangement (104) and a centre of gravity (106) of the vehicle are positioned at a relative distance from each other to form a matter-antimatter dipole when in operation. The matter-antimatter dipole provides a propulsion force to the vehicle (100). Optionally, the vehicle (100) is a space vehicle (namely a spacecraft, a satellite or similar).

Abstract: A magneto-optical trap apparatus includes a vacuum vessel for encapsulating an atom to be trapped, an anti-Helmholtz coil for applying a magnetic field to an inside of the vacuum vessel, a laser device for generating a laser beam, and an irradiation device for irradiating the generated laser beam from a plurality of directions. The laser beam includes a first laser beam detuned from a first resonance frequency when the atom transits from a total angular momentum quantum number F in a ground state to a total angular momentum quantum number F′=F+1 in an excited state, and a second laser beam detuned from a second resonance frequency when the atom transits from the total angular momentum quantum number F in the ground state to a total angular momentum quantum number F′=F−1 in the excited state, among transitions from J=0 in a ground state to J′=1 in an excited state.
