摘要:
A half crescent shaped ice piece maker comprising a freezing tray (100) having an inner surface arcuately shaped about a longitudinal radial axis and divided into crescent shaped water fillable cavities (112) in which the ice pieces are formed, and an ejector assembly (102) for rotatively moving the ice pieces out of the cavities (122) comprising a rotatable shaft (106) supported in bearings with its axis coincident with the radial axis, and with ejector assembly (102) further comprising a row of primary flexible, spring-like ejector elements (114) lying in a common plane and each secured at a first end to the shaft (106) and having its second end extend into one of the crescent shaped cavities (122) to divide the cavity (122) into rotatively leading and lagging partial crescent shaped cavities while water is injected and frozen therein and before the ejector assembly (102) is rotated to form leading and lagging rows of partial crescent ice pieces with ice bridges (152) around the edges of the ejector elements (114) between the leading and lagging partial crescent ice pieces (130) and (132) of each full crescent shaped ice piece, and a prime mover for rotating the ejector assembly. A fixed position ice stripper assembly (104) is positioned in the path of the ice pieces being rotated by the ejector assembly (102) to stop the rotation of the ice pieces and bend back the row of flexible spring-like ejector elements to create a potential force therein and to break the ice bridge between the leading and lagging half crescent ice pieces and enable the flexible, spring-like ejector elements to spring forward to eject the leading row of half crescent ice pieces from the freezing tray. A second row of ejector elements functions to eject the lagging row of partial crescent ice pieces from the tray.

Icemakers are characterized by a plurality of vertical evaporator tubes arranged in parallel and in a circle within the interior of a cylindrical ice making section. During an ice making cycle, water is supplied to the exterior surfaces of the evaporator tubes and refrigerant is supplied to the interiors of the tubes, to cause tubes of ice to freeze on the evaporator tubes. At the end of the ice making cycle and during a harvest cycle, the evaporator tubes are heated to free the ice tubes from their bond to the evaporator tubes, and a driver is actuated to move the ice tubes slidably along and off of the evaporator tubes and to fracture the leading ends of the ice tubes into smaller pieces of ice as they leave the evaporator tubes. In one embodiment, the driver comprises a piston for pushing the ice tubes off of the evaporator tubes. In another embodiment, a helical driver moves the ice tubes off of the evaporator tubes.

A timing mechanism controls various functions of an ice maker through cams carried on a camshaft. A harvest rake that removes ice from a receptacle is coupled to the camshaft to be rotated thereby. The camshaft is driven by a motor which is coupled to the timing mechanism through a pair of non-circular meshing gears. The gears are programmed such that a slower speed is imparted to the camshaft when ice is being removed from the receptacle by the harvest rake. This provides a slower speed but higher torque to the harvest rake during ice removal and a faster, more accurate timing rate during filling of the receptacle.

A thermal ice penetration method and apparatus for melting a hole through ice preferably utilizing thermochemical heating by exothermal reaction between water supplied at least in part by the melting ice and a thermochemical reactant, preferably lithium and/or other alkali metal or alkali metal alloy. A number of ice penetration systems and devices are disclosed which utilize the thermal ice penetration to deploy payloads, such as sensors, transducers, antennas, instruments, weapons, or the like, through polar ice either downwardly from the ice surface into the water below the ice or upwardly from the underside of the ice through the ice surface.

The invention relates to apparatus for cutting and removing a core of ice from an expanse of natural ice such as, for example, a lake or river so that fishing can be accomplished through the remaining open hole. The apparatus consists of a cylinder with ice-cutting teeth on its lower end, lands around its periphery and a handle employed for rotating the cylinder.

An ice making machine with an improved cube cutter is disclosed. A pair of oscillating pivotal cutter bars are disposed adjacent and beneath vertical ice making columns. The cutter bars are arranged to pivot in opposite directions so that as a rod or tube of ice falls therebetween, it is cut off into a cube, which then falls between the cutters into an appropriate receptacle.

A substantially horizontal grating having a plurality of substantially parallel bars extends within an enclosure that is adapted to gravitationally receive a mass of tobacco containing a cryogen and discharge smaller tobacco particles therefrom. A plurality of rotatable shafts having a plurality of blades equally separated by spacers are disposed orthogonally over the parallel bars such that the blades are located between the parallel bars. The spacers on the shafts and the parallel bars cooperate to define a plurality of sized apertures through the grating. The blades are formed to separate portions of the mass upon rotation and to urge the portions through the sized apertures for discharge from the apparatus.

A combination ice crusher-drink mixer appliance which serves either as an ice crusher or as a drink mixer or as a combination of the two whereby to provide crushed ice to a drink as it is being mixed. An electric motor is operably connected to an upwardly inclined ice-crushing auger which is rotatable in an ice-crushing barrel whereby ice cubes introduced to the lower end of the auger-barrel combination through a vertically disposed ice chute are simultaneously crushed, sized, and transported upwardly to a crushed ice discharge port at the upper end of the barrel. A crushed-ice-receiving and drink-mixing container has an agitator mounted off center in the bottom thereof with the container being selectively positionable adjacent the crushed ice discharge port in either of two positions. In one of these positions only, the agitator is automatically coupled to the electric motor. The path of ice movement through the appliance from the entrance to the ice chute to the bottom of the container is in the form of an inverted N and the ice crushing auger and barrel are formed of high strength plastic. The drive connection between the electric motor, which has a built-in impact clutch, and the auger includes a gear reduction mechanism and a modified universal-joint with the drive ratio therebetween being in the order of 100:1, the drive ratio between the electric motor and the agitator being in the order of 1:1. The ice chute has a cover which, when opened, defines an upward extension of the ice chute. The auger is readily removable from the barrel for cleaning and the container has a pouring spout with a strainer and a hand-grip formation. The components of the combination ice crusher-drink mixer appliance are nested together to provide a compact multi-purpose appliance which occupies a minimum amount of countertop space.
