The portable storage device includes a control module sorting digital rights management data from received data and forming a file comprising the digital rights management data, and a storage module storing the file. The method includes sorting digital rights management data from received data, forming a file comprising the digital rights management data, and storing the file in a storage module. Accordingly, files can be securely managed to be suitable to DRM.

For digital rights management (DRM), a method for performing authentication between a device and a portable storage, which is performed by the device, includes transmitting a first key to the portable storage, receiving a third key and a first encrypted random number obtained by encrypting a first random number using the first key from the portable storage and decrypting the first encrypted random number using a second key related with the first key, generating a second encrypted random number by encrypting a second random number using the third key and transmitting the second encrypted random number to the portable storage, and generating a session key using the first random number and the second random number. The technique guarantees secure authentication between the device and the portable storage for DRM.

Provided is a method for delivering all or part of a rights object (RO) of a user associated with the content to other users. The method includes creating a rights object to be transmitted to a second user within a limit of the rights object held by the first user, and forwarding the created rights object to the second user. The method allows each user to share its own RO with other users within the limit of the RO without server authentication.

Methods and apparatus are provided for providing a DRM service by a user terminal apparatus consuming DRM content in a service environment that provides the DRM content using a plurality of incompatible DRM systems. A license corresponding to the DRM content is acquired from a service providing apparatus that provides the DRM content. It is determined whether the license is a common license having a common DRM interface format. The common DRM interface format of the common license is converted to a format of a first DRM system installed in the user terminal apparatus, when the license is the common license. The license having the format of the first DRM system is applied in reproducing the DRM content. The common license is provided from the service providing apparatus to the user terminal apparatus through a common DRM interface when the service providing apparatus does not support the first DRM system.

A method and apparatus for transmitting/receiving encryption information in a mobile broadcast system providing broadcast service (BCAST) are disclosed. In the mobile broadcast system, a broadcast (BCAST) Service Distribution/Adaptation (BSD/A) unit comprises a transmitter for transmitting a Registration Key Material (RKM) request message for requesting delivery of an RKM for registration of the BCAST service of a terminal to a BCAST Subscription Management (BSM) unit managing subscriber information of the terminal, and a receiver for receiving an RKM request response message from the BSM unit. The RKM request message includes an identifier (ID) of the BCAST service, and the RKM request response message includes the ID of the BCAST service and the RKM. The transmitter transmits a Long-Term Key Message (LTKM) request message for requesting delivery of an LTKM provided to the terminal during subscription of the BCAST service to the BSM unit.

A method and apparatus for a digital broadcasting service may allow direct and real-time control of a digital broadcasting receiver. A service providing server inserts a content control access criteria descriptor into a transport stream and transmits content and the content control access criteria descriptor to the receiver through the transport stream. The receiver receives the transport stream and processes the content according to the content control access criteria descriptor, which can contain lock control information and coupon provision information. The lock control information indicates whether a control function of the receiver is locked or unlocked for specific content. The coupon provision information indicates whether a coupon available for the purchase of pay content is granted depending on execution of specific content.

An apparatus for providing a Digital Rights Management (DRM) service includes a Media Presentation Description (MPD) information configurer for determining a DRM system required in each of representations of content provided by an adaptive streaming service, classifying the representations into one or more groups according to predetermined criteria, and configuring MPD information by inserting content protection information including representation group information representing classified groups and information about DRM systems corresponding to the representation group information; and a communication unit for transmitting the MPD information to a user terminal receiving the content.

Disclosed is a method of recording and storing a broadcast content received for mobile broadcast services in a transmitting-end level. A broadcast receiving terminal includes a type of the key profile in the header of the recorded file for the particular broadcast content, the CIEK which is used in encrypting the broadcast content and encrypted with the second layer encryption key, and the acquisition information on the second layer encryption key. The acquisition information on the second layer encryption key is included in a corresponding field of the header according to the type of the used profile. As in the SRTP and IPSec, a recorded file format in the transmitting-end level recording is the PDCF. Information associated with the encryption of the encrypted broadcast content is stored in the OMA DRM common header box (ohdr box) of the PDCF recorded file.

A method for authentication, by a host device, of a storage device having a plurality of unit storage areas comprises acquiring information on the distribution of locations of defect referenceive areas to be used for uniquely identifying the storage device, sampling the unit storage areas of the storage device, identifying the distribution of locations of physically defective areas among the sampled areas, determining the similarity between the acquired distribution of locations and the identified distribution of location, and authenticating the storage device according to the result of the determination.
