    Abstract: A system and method of measuring a temperature including applying a first set of voltages across a circuit in sequence; detecting a second set of voltages corresponding to the first set of voltages, wherein the second set of voltages includes a first detected voltage, a second detected voltage, and a third detected voltage, wherein the first applied voltage corresponds to the first detected voltage, the second applied voltage corresponds to the second detected voltage, and a third applied voltage corresponds to the third detected voltage; modifying an output of a heater proximate to the diode within the circuit, wherein a combined heat dissipation of the heater and the diode remains constant during operation of the circuit; and determining a temperature proximate to the diode based on the first set of voltages and the second set of voltages.

    Abstract: Optical transceivers comprising optical loopback circuits are described. The optical transceiver may comprise a housing, which may host a transmitter, a receiver and the optical loopback circuit. The optical loopback circuit may be configured to route at least a portion of a modulated optical signal from the transmitter to the receiver. The optical loopback circuit may comprise tap couplers and/or optical switches. The optical transceiver may be switched between a normal mode and a calibration mode. The optical transceiver may maintain the same fiber connections even when the optical transceiver is switched from one mode to another. The transmitter, the receiver and the optical loopback circuit may be disposed on a common substrate, or on separate substrates.

    Abstract: Cantilevered waveguides suspended above an air cavity in an underlying substrate are described. The waveguide is formed by patterning a waveguide layer in some embodiments, and the air cavity is formed by etching the substrate beneath the waveguide. The topside of the air cavity may be sealed by filling the openings used to etch the cavity with a sealant, such as optical epoxy. In some embodiments, the waveguide is a facet coupler, positioned at a chip facet.
