    摘要: A pneumatic spring having a piston and rod assembly operatively mounted in a gas-charged cylinder tube which expands when an associated closure such as a lift gate of a vehicle is released from its locked position. The force of the pneumatic spring assists the swinging movement of the lift gate on its hinges relative to the bodywork of the vehicle. As the lift gate opens, the pneumatic spring expands with the piston rod telescoping outwardly of the cylinder tube, which operates to pull a dust tube normally surrounding the cylinder tube. This around the tube until a stop ring secured to the end of the dust engages a stop collar operatively mounted on the cylinder tube. This positively limits the expansion of the gas spring and thereby establishes the open position of the lift gate. This open position of the lift gate can be manually changed by physically turning the dust tube in one direction to advance the stop collar threadably mounted on the cylinder tube to increase the amount that the gas spring can expand or in an opposite rotational direction to retract the stop collar on the cylinder tube to decrease the amount of gas spring expansion and amount of lift gate opening.

    摘要: A device is provided which is capable of generating a surface that at least partially conforms to the contour of an article. The surface is defined by the ends of a number of threaded members which are supported within a suitable support structure. The threaded members are aligned so as to be substantially parallel to and threadably engaged with each other. As a result, rotation of an individual threaded member will cause that threaded member to be longitudinally moved relative to its adjacent threaded members and the support structure, without displacing an adjacent threaded member. The surface can be readily configured manually or automatically to serve as a die or mold cavity when the entire surface has been generated to conform to the entire contour of the article. Alternatively, the surface can be generated so as to provide a suitable fixture surface for supporting and securing a workpiece during a machining or welding operation. Due to its method of generation, the surface can be quickly and repeatedly reconfigured to conform to an article or workpiece having a completely different contour.

    摘要: A system and method for determining vehicle wheel misalignment. The method includes accumulating the hand-wheel position using a hand-wheel sensor over a predetermined sampling period, and then comparing the accumulated hand-wheel position to previously accumulated hand-wheel positions to provide an indication of wheel misalignment. Because a vehicle will typically be driven so that the right turns will substantially equal the left turns over a sufficiently large sampling period, the accumulated hand-wheel position should average out to be about zero, unless there is a wheel misalignment which would cause the vehicle operator to continuously turn the hand-wheel in one direction when driving straight. Therefore, if the accumulated hand-wheel position exhibits a consistent algebraic deviation and shows a progressive increase over multiple sampling periods, the confidence of wheel misalignment will increase.

    摘要: According to the invention a hollow cylindrical shank of electrically conducting metal is connected to a resistance welder. A coolant supply tube passes through the shank and has an interior coolant supply passage. The coolant supply tube has an outer diameter less than the inner diameter of the hollow cylindrical shank. A weld cap seats on the shank and has a cap tip and a cap skirt that depends from the cap tip and is attached to the shank. An underside of the cap tip faces the shank and the supply tube. A coolant receiving bore formed into the underside of the weld cap extends into the cap tip to receive the coolant supply tube part way into the bore. The bore formed into the underside of the cap tip defines a bore sidewall that provides added area of heat transfer contact between the coolant and the cap tip.

A threaded bushing or plunger is attached to the tube and operable to adjust the distance between the interior surface of the cap and the outlet of the tube to a preferred distance. A threaded sleeve interconnects the tube and bushing for additional adjustability. The tube defines an elastically compressible bellows section, and a spacer is removably attached to the distal end of the tube for automatic adjustment of the outlet position by the cap.
