Abstract: An air diversion device captures a flow of air from above a roadway vehicle, more specifically large tractor trailer rigs operating over the highway, and forcibly diverts the captured air to the heart of the low pressure air void created behind the roadway vehicle as it passes over a roadway, reducing the amount of drag force applied to the roadway vehicle, thus increasing and enhancing the efficiency of operation of the roadway vehicle. The diversion device includes at least one air intake manifold placed on the top of the roadway vehicle near the rear of the roadway vehicle, a channeled duct system, and a forced air outlet projecting the forced air gathered by the air intake manifold through the channeled duct system, ejecting the forced air in a relatively horizontal plane into the mid-center portion of the rear of the roadway vehicle at a highly accelerated rate.

Abstract: A wind deflector assembly for a roll tarping system mounted on a vehicle includes a pair of side mounting plates, each associated with a corresponding opposite end of the roll tarping system. Each of the mounting plates includes a first edge and at least one flange projecting from a notch formed in the first edge of the mounting plate. An elongated deflector plate includes at least one variable location mounting element defined on an inner surface thereof. Each mounting element is arranged to be aligned with a corresponding flange when the deflector plate is mounted to the side mounting plates. The flange includes a fastener opening, while the mounting element includes a T-slot and channel. At least two fasteners are provided for connecting the deflector plate to each side mounting plate. The fastener can include a bolt sized to slide within the T-slot and channel, and a nut that is threaded onto the bolt when it extends from the mounting element through the opening in the flanges. The deflector plate is provided in a length that is greater than the necessary width to cover the tarping system. The deflector plate is cut to length during installation.

Abstract: A tractor-trailer system uses aerodynamic principles to use crosswind to its advantage. The system has a curvilinear duct by having a attaching a convex body on the trailer front and a concave body on the back of the cab. When a cross wind enters the gap, it creates a negative pressure (compare to ambient) on the convex surface (trailer front) and a positive pressure on concave surface (back of the cab). Both of these pressures will help reduce the drag. Further having the crosswind flow smoothly can lead to less turbulence intensity in the gap, which can help in improving handling qualities of the system. There is a similar situation both for drag as well as handling qualities can be given for the air traveling in vertical direction (even at zero cross wind).
