摘要： A new type of inflator that may be used to inflate an airbag is disclosed. The inflator will have a longitudinal axis, a first chamber, and a filter. The filter may be positioned outside of the first chamber. A first quantity of gas generant is positioned within the first chamber. A first strainer having a plurality of gas flow holes is also positioned within the first chamber. The first quantity of gas generant is located exterior of the strainer. Upon combustion of the first quantity of gas generant produces a first quantity of gas that flows towards the longitudinal axis while passing through the gas flow holes, enters the filter, and then flows away from the longitudinal axis while passing through the filter.

摘要： Disclosed are embodiments of apparatus, methods, and systems for cutting one or more tethers connected with an airbag cushion and simultaneously, or sequentially, closing one or more vent openings. In one embodiment, an airbag module is provided that includes a tether opening and at least one vent opening. The tether may extend through the tether opening adjacent to a cutter. The cutter may be configured to cut the tether upon deployment of an actuator. A vent door configured to block the vent opening(s) upon deployment of the actuator may also be provided. This embodiment may therefore provided for simultaneous, or sequential, cutting of the tether and closing of the vent opening(s) with a single actuator.

摘要： A relief valve and related systems and methods are disclosed for use in fluid distribution lines. The relief valve comprises a body defining a cavity and comprising at least first and second openings in fluid communication with the cavity. A connector piece is connected to the body at the first opening to connect the valve to a fluid distribution line. A rupture disc is disposed within and obstructs the first opening. When it is desired that fluid from the fluid distribution line be vented from the system, the rupture disc is punctured and thereby allows for fluid communication through the first opening of the valve.

摘要： A “hybrid” inflator having an extended filling capacity is disclosed. This inflator is designed to deploy an inflatable curtain airbag. The inflator will have an inner chamber that is connected to an outer chamber by a bleed hole. The inner chamber has a first supply of gas and a pyrotechnic material. This first supply of gas is sufficient to inflate an inflatable curtain after ignition of the pyrotechnic material. The outer chamber has a second supply of gas. The second supply of gas bleeds out of the outer chamber through the inner chamber and into the inflatable curtain. The inflatable curtain may be initially filled by the first supply of gas in the inner chamber while the second supply of gas slowly bleeds out of the inflator into the curtain to maintain the curtain at a desired pressure sufficient to provide impact protection to the vehicle occupant.

摘要： An impact energy management system for absorbing or displacing kinetic energy during a collision. The system includes a housing defining a chamber and a contact element disposed at least partially within the chamber and longitudinally movable therein. At least a first load bearing pin is disposed between the energy adsorbing member and the housing. Prior to the collision, the contact element is disposed in an impact position, and upon the collision, the contact element moves within the chamber and the first pin deforms a segment of at least one of the housing or contact element, thereby reducing the force of the impact by transferring energy into the deformation.

The cushion may be sandwiched between front and rear door covers so that inflation of the cushion moves the front door cover toward the knees of a vehicle user to provide antisubmarining protection. The cushion may incorporate the front door cover as a portion of its inflation gas-containing membrane. The glove compartment assembly may utilize a uniquely designed latching system, such as an electric latching assembly, a latching assembly disposed generally off the door, or a break-away latching assembly disposed generally on the front door cover, to permit motion of the front door cover away from the instrument panel without interfering with the airbag module.

摘要： A system for trapping of a dark image object on a lighter colored background is disclosed. In a system using a page description language including overprint operators, black image areas (such as text, lines, graphic objects and the like) can be set to overprint colored background areas in a manner that eliminates rendered image defects including page-colored "halo" effect that can occur when the cutout background area underlying the black object is misregistered with the black object that was intended to cover the cutout area. In other systems, the present invention may be employed as a disabling of the undercolor removal system of a colored area that would otherwise be present under the black object. Systems using black plus at least one other toners or ink color (such as cyan, magenta and/or yellow or many other colors) can usefully employ the system of the present invention. The trapping system of the present invention may also be employed on an object-oriented basis, such that different image object types are trapped according to the system of the present invention and at least one other trapping system.

A check valve prevents combustion of the liquified gas upstream of the combustion chamber.
