To provide a grommet that can be smoothly inserted into a through-hole in a vehicle body panel so that a vehicle body latch recess provided in the grommet can receive a peripheral edge around the through-hole without catching the recess by the through-hole. The grommet includes: an inner tube for passing electrical cables in the wire harness in a close contact manner; and an outer tube coupled through an annular coupling section to an outer peripheral surface of the inner tube and provided with a slant wall section. The outer tube is provided on a larger diameter end of the slant wall section with a larger thickness portion in parallel to an axial direction. An annular vehicle body latch recess is provided in an outer peripheral surface at a boundary area between the larger diameter end of the slant wall section and the larger thickness portion. The slant wall section is provided on an outer peripheral surface with a plurality of stepped projecting ribs that extend radially from a smaller diameter end of the slant wall section to the larger diameter end and are separated apart from one another in a peripheral direction. A distal end of each of the projecting ribs is disposed at a side surface end of the vehicle body latch recess. Each of the projecting ribs is provided on a stepped top surface with a first slant surface that is inclined down to the side surface end of the vehicle body latch recess, and is provided on both side surfaces with a second slant surface and a third slant surface that are inclined down from the top surface across the first slant surface. The first, second, and third slant surfaces form a three-side-cut-away portion.

A door side fixing position of the door wire harness is shifted from a vehicle body side fixing position of the door wire harness in a vertical direction. A spanning section of the door wire harness between the door side fixing position and the vehicle body side fixing position is sheathed by a grommet having a flexible bellows-like tube portion and made of rubber or resin. The spanning section of the door wire harness is bent in an S-shaped configuration in a space between opposed surfaces of the door and the vehicle body when the door is closed. The door wire harness is changed from the S-shaped configuration to a straight line configuration when the door is opened.

A plurality of the electric wires (W) are disposed parallel with one another at required intervals on the foamed sheet (11). The foamed sheet (11) is folded upon itself to sandwich the electric wires (W) between the adhesive layer (11b) formed on the upper surface. The adhesive layer formed on the lower surface of the foamed sheet is bonded to itself.

A method for forming a molded grommet using a device which includes a fixed mold and a movable mold, the latter having three positions. The first is a closed position, wherein the two molds are adjacent each other with a middle plate between them. Second, there is an intermediate position in which the middle plate and movable mold are spaced apart from the fixed mold. Third, there is an open position, wherein the movable mold is spaced further from the fixed mold than the middle plate. A core is fixed to the movable mold and, when in the closed position; the two molds, the core, and the edge of the middle plate define the molding space into which moldable resin is introduced, thereby forming the grommet with the edge within the channel. As the core moves from the intermediate position to the open position, the middle plate is retained in the intermediate position; therefore, the core is pulled out of the grommet through the axial hollow therein. In a preferred form of the device, a retaining element on the end of the core pulls the adjacent end of the grommet into the axial hollow. The grommet is then removed from the edge and any unwanted peripheral material is cut off. The core can be pulled out either in the direction of movement of the movable mold or an angle (preferably 90°) thereto.
