Abstract: An impact tool includes a housing, a motor supported in the housing, and a drive assembly for converting a continuous torque input from the motor to consecutive rotational impacts upon a workpiece. The drive assembly includes an anvil, a hammer that is both rotationally and axially movable relative to the anvil, and a spring for biasing the hammer in an axial direction toward the anvil. The spring is rotationally unitized to the hammer for co-rotation therewith at all times during operation of the impact tool.

Abstract: An accessory for a fastening tool having a pass-through drive including a bore bounded by a plurality of drive surfaces includes a coupling portion insertable into the bore from a first side of the bore in a first direction along an axis of the bore, an adapter portion extending from the coupling portion to be coupled to a tool element to perform work on a workpiece, and a lock rotatable relative to the coupling portion between a locked position, in which the lock engages a periphery of the bore, on a second of the bore opposite the first side, to prevent the accessory from being removed from the bore in a second direction opposite the first direction, and an unlocked position, in which the lock aligns with the plurality of drive surfaces to permit removal of the accessory from the bore in the second direction.

Abstract: An impact tool including a housing, a motor having an output shaft rotatable about a first axis, and an impact mechanism. The impact mechanism includes a camshaft, an anvil, and a hammer configured to reciprocate along the camshaft to impart rotational impacts to the anvil in a first operating mode and to directly drive the anvil in a second operating mode. The impact tool further includes a crankshaft coupled to the anvil for co-rotation with the anvil, a yoke driven by the crankshaft to reciprocate about a second axis perpendicular to the first axis, an output drive, and a pawl configured to selectively couple the output drive to the yoke for co-rotation with the yoke in a first rotational locking direction about the second axis and to permit the yoke to rotate relative to the pawl in a second rotational locking direction about the second axis.

Abstract: A power tool includes a first housing portion and a second housing portion, a motor directly mounted between the housing portions with an output shaft defining an axis, and a gear assembly supported within the housing and including a ring gear directly supported by the housing portions, a pinion gear coupled for co-rotation with the output shaft, and planet gears meshed with the pinion gear and the ring gear. The power tool also includes a drive assembly operably coupled to the gear assembly with a camshaft, an anvil, a hammer configured to reciprocate along the camshaft to impart rotational impacts to the anvil, and a spring biasing the hammer towards the anvil. The ring gear includes lugs engaged with the first housing portion and the second housing portion to rotationally constrain the ring gear.

Abstract: A power tool includes a housing with a motor housing portion, a handle portion extending from the motor housing portion, and a battery receptacle configured to receive a battery pack. An electric motor is supported in the motor housing portion. A trigger extends from the handle portion. An actuator is located on a top surface of the housing opposite the battery receptacle and includes a magnet. A sensor is positioned adjacent the actuator to detect a position of the magnet and output an actuator signal representative of a position of the actuator based on the detected position of the magnet. A controller is configured to control the electric motor based on the actuator signal received from the sensor such that the electric motor rotates in a first direction when the actuator is in the first position and rotates in an opposite direction when the actuator is in the second position.

Abstract: A power tool includes a housing, a motor mounted within the housing and including a stator with an outer diameter and a rotor having a shaft configured to rotate about an axis relative to the stator. The power tool also includes a gear assembly operably coupled to the motor and including a ring gear fixed relative to the housing and planet gears meshed with the ring gear. A drive assembly is operably coupled to the gear assembly to receive torque from the shaft through the gear assembly. The power tool also includes a rear bearing rotatably supporting a rearward portion of the shaft and a forward bearing rotatably supporting a forward portion of the shaft. A distance measured between a front edge of the rear bearing and a rear edge of the forward bearing is less than the outer diameter of the stator.

Abstract: Systems and methods for reducing vibration in power tool. One system includes a power tool that includes a housing and a motor. The power tool further includes a sensor configured to indicate an amount of vibration experienced by the power tool. The power tool further includes an electronic processor coupled to the sensor and to the inductor. The electronic processor is configured to receive a user-selected sensitivity level for vibration control, to receive an input signal from the sensor indicating the amount of vibration, to generate a control signal based on the input signal, and to provide the control signal to the inductor to control the magnetic field.

Abstract: A rotary power tool includes a gear case, an output shaft, a drive mechanism, and a clutch mechanism. The clutch mechanism including a compression spring positioned around the output shaft. The rotary power tool further includes a clutch adjustment assembly having a collar disposed circumferentially around the gear case and rotatable to adjust a length of the compression spring, an inductive sensor disposed within the collar and proximate the compression spring such that a voltage is induced in the inductive sensor in response to relative movement between the compression spring and a magnetic field emitted by the inductive sensor, and an electronic control unit configured to receive an output signal from the inductive sensor indicative of the change in inductance in the inductive sensor and to determine a parameter of the clutch mechanism based on the output signal. The compression spring is disposed adjacent and offset from the inductive sensor.
