Abstract: A cantilevered mobile bed/chair apparatus for safely transferring a patient from and to a hospital type bed comprises three hinged together segments forming back, seat and foot platforms operating in conjunction with a four wheeled, rectangular base. The hinged together platforms convert from a fully adjustable chair mode to a bed mode by a first jack located beneath the seat platform. The platforms are raised and lowered by a second jack associated with a telescoping tower attached to an E frame. The telescoping tower is mounted vertically from one side of the rectangular base, and when extended, has a height greater than a hospital bed. The E frame, which supports the platforms, is cantilevered horizontally from the top portion of the telescoping tower, and the height thereof is controlled by the second jack mounted together with the bottom portion of the telescoping tower, to the wheeled base. The side edges of the platforms are beveled or angled downward. When it is desired to transfer a patient from a hospital bed to the bed/chair apparatus, the unit is wheeled over in the bed mode. The lower height is extended by the second jack which enables the platforms to overhang in cantilever fashion the hospital bed by up to eighteen inches, and then lowered so as to press into the mattress of the hospital bed. The angled down edges of the platforms pressing into the mattress results in a tight embrace of the hospital bed, and an almost flat profile for the two beds so that a single caregiver can safely effect the patient transfer. Numerous other features are included for medical and physical maintenance of the patient.

Abstract: The bedside toilet includes an elongated platform including a posterior section, a back section, and a leg section, which are hinged together so that the platform can be moved from a horizontal position to an operable position in which the back section extends upwardly from the posterior section and the leg section extends downwardly. The posterior section includes a toilet. The posterior section is supported in cantilevered fashion from a supporting structure which is carried by a trolley that rides on an overhead track. The supporting structure is composed of two sections that can be moved relative to each other to vary the distance between the track and the platform. A power mounted mechanism, such as a fluid cylinder, interconnects the posterior section with the back section and the leg section, respectively, and individual operation of the cylinders can permit the back section and leg section to pivot with respect to the posterior section.

Abstract: Provided is a nursing-care device capable of easily moving a care-requiring person from the nursing-care device to medical/nursing-care equipment arranged at the side of a bed. One embodiment of the present invention includes a bed body having a floor portion at an upper surface, one and the other support bases supporting both ends of the bed body, support rods extending upward of the floor portion, and a lifting/lowering unit configured to lift/lower the bed body and the support rods. A lifting member is attached to the support rods. The support rods are lowered in a case where the bed body is lifted by the lifting/lowering unit, and are lifted in a case where the bed body is lowered. In a case where the support rods are lowered, the lowermost portion of the lifting member is moved to below the floor portion of the bed body.

Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus and method for lateral transfer of patient between two platforms. In particular the invention provides an apparatus for lateral transfer of patient that facilitates gravity assisted transfer of patient with low effort and high protection from injury. The invention comprise a curved board for gravity assisted lateral transfer of patient comprising a top surface and a bottom surface having rectangular holes punched at the ends of the curved board. The curved board comprise of an elevated portion, a middle slanted portion, and a lower portion wherein the elevated portion is substantially raised relatively to the lower portion. In an embodiment of the present invention, the elevated portion of the curved board can be configured to shove beneath the bed sheet and the lower portion of the curved board can rest on flat surface of the adjacent low levelled second flat surface thus facilitating gravity assisted lateral transfer of patient which is performed by nurses by gently sliding the patient from the elevated surface to the lower surface via the slanted surface on the z-shaped curved board.
