摘要： A needle containing medical device is provided with a mechanism to enable the needle to be sucked back into the main body of the device after use. The medical device contains a chamber that can be depressurised on demand to create the vacuum prior to use to enable the needle to be sucked back into the main body. Thus, the medical device can be stored and transported with the chamber under ordinary (atmospheric) pressure and the vacuum can be created on demand and just before use. Advantage—the medical device is not constantly under vacuum so the problem of slow loss of vacuum during storage is overcome.

摘要： A hypodermic syringe comprises a housing (1), which includes a barrel portion (1.4) and an injectant chamber (1.5), where the injectant chamber has a smaller cross-sectional area than the barrel portion (1.4). A plunger (2), which comprises a piston (3), is slideably mounted within the barrel portion (1.4) and extends into the injectant chamber (1.5). A retractable needle assembly (5) is provided, together with stored energy means (4), so that, at the completion of an injection stroke, the piston (3) becomes attached to the needle assembly (5) and the stored energy is released to retract the needle assembly (5) into the housing (1). Co-operating features (3.7, 5.7) may be arranged on the piston (3) and needle assembly (5) so that complete evacuation of the injectant chamber (1.5) is not impeded. As the parameters of the stored energy means (4) are not limited by the physical dimensions of the injectant chamber (1.5), this arrangement is particularly suitable for small capacity syringes, i.e. 3 ml or less.

摘要： The present invention is directed to syringes that have needles that retract after an injection to provide safe syringes which reduce the possibility of a sharps injury through retraction of the needle after use into the barrel of the syringe. The syringe includes a barrel, a needle assembly positioned in the hollow body, a fluid retention system positioned in the hollow body, and a plunger assembly that moves in the hollow body. A fluid retention system retains in the syringe any fluid remaining in the needle after the plunger assembly approaches tha distal end of the hollow body. The fluid retention system includes a variable volume vacuum cavity in fluid communication with the needle passage, the vaccum cavity expanding prior to retraction of the needle assembly and providing a pressure drop in the needle, tending to draw into the hollow body any fluid remaining in the needle.

摘要： A hypodermic injection system with a retractable needle wherein the needle retracts within an interior cavity of a syringe plunger, such that the needle is confined within the plunger. A spring biases the needle rearwardly into the plunger, and a needle retainer releasably retains the needle against the bias of the spring. The plunger has a frangible end, which dissociates when the plunger engages the needle retainer, allowing the coiled spring to eject the needle into the interior cavity of the plunger. A body fluid sampling embodiment employs the same functional elements except the plunger is shorter and contains a linking that communicates with a vacuum container. The container allows fluid sampling and provides the structure to release the spring retracting the needle. The retractable needle embodiment is also employed with an insertion needle that guides a catheter tube below the skin of a patient and into the vein, and allows retraction of the insertion needle thereby avoiding accidental pricking of the health care worker by the insertion needle.

摘要： A disposable medical syringe apparatus with retractable needle is disclosed. The spent needle, or other similar medical sharps device, affixed to a detachable needle hub on the syringe barrel may be safely encapsulated and disposed by a simple, one handed operation, and, both the needle and the syringe apparatus are rendered useless for any subsequent operation. The invention is comprised of two parts, a syringe barrel fitted with a detachable needle hub and an evacuated plunger fitted with a combination catch ring/air release/vacuum seal mechanism that readily permits the introduction of the vacuum into the hollow chamber of the plunger. The syringe apparatus is used in the standard manner for an injection of medicinal liquid or for the collection of blood or other body fluids. When use is complete, continued longitudinal axial force is applied to the distal (thumb) end of the evacuated plunger. The catch ring on the combination part within the proximal end of the evacuated plunger captures the detachable needle hub in the syringe barrel body. Continued longitudinal axial force causes a release ring holding the detachable needle hub within the syringe barrel to advance into an annular channel thereby releasing the detachable needle hub and needle from the syringe barrel. Continued longitudinal axial force releases a retaining ring from the combination part. This allows atmospheric pressure to act on the combination part and to cause the combination part, detachable needle hub and needle to withdraw into the interior of the plunger. The entire device may now be safely disposed.

摘要： A disposable syringe with an automatically retractable hypodermic needle of the type consisting of an injector plunger, a container cylinder with needle-carrier head and a needle with connection ferrule. The ferrule is housed in an inner hollow of the head of the cylinder, wherein the tube of the needle has passing axially though it a guiding channel to the outside, the hollow having a plurality of elastic retention tabs and the rear face of the needle-carrier head of the cylinder being in contact with an elastomeric washer interposed in an annular manner between it and the plunger which is defined by a cover whose attack front part has a slightly conical circular crown coinciding with said elastomeric washer and which is equipped centrally with a frustoconical core coinciding in a closely fitting manner with the opening of the ferrule of the needle. The cover also has a perimeter groove on its surrounding face which can be locked in terms of position in a plurality of domed projections of the inner wall of the tube which contains it, thereby forming the shaft of the plunger, the head of the cover and the base of said shaft being joined together by a tensioned elastic means and comprising, in the rear zone of their surrounding wall, a plurality of grooves in the rear zone which link its inside to the outside space.

摘要： A retractable needle medical assembly includes a barrel and a plunger assembly defining an internal passageway. A sleeve is mounted to the barrel and extends into the internal passageway defined by the plunger assembly. An actuator member, in the form of an actuator tube, is mounted within the sleeve toward its rearward end, and includes a trigger which can either be manually engaged by the user or engaged by the plunger when the plunger is in its full-forward position relative to the barrel. A hub is received within the sleeve passage, and a spring bears against the hub so as to urge the hub to a rearward, retracted position. The actuator tube engages the hub so as to maintain the hub in a forward position, and a needle assembly consisting of a needle and a head is engaged with the hub by the user prior to operation of the assembly. Depression of the trigger results in movement of the actuator tube to disengage the actuator tube from the hub, so as to allow the spring to propel the hub, and thereby the needle assembly, rearwardly to retract the needle into the sleeve passage and to prevent accidental contact therewith. The needle retraction system may be incorporated into a medical device such as a syringe, or into a system for collecting blood or other body fluids from a patient.

The plunger deforms the resilient arms to disengage the needle mount from the barrel, while engaging means on the plunger in turn engage snap lock portions on the resilient arms to withdraw the needle into the barrel with the plunger, where the plunger is captured and held.
