    摘要: The disclosed jack assembly is used to raise the frame of a railroad car to a sufficient height above a wheeled truck assembly coupled to the railroad car in order to perform maintenance or remove the truck assembly. The jack assembly comprises an air-operated bellows which raises and lowers a plate that engages the railroad car for the raising and lowering action. Telescoping posts and other support members aid in stabilizing the jack assembly during use in order to prevent failure of the bellows due to buckling under the weight of the railroad car. The jack assembly is readily mobile between locations, and can be operated by a single user.

    摘要: A pneumatic actuator adapted for placement between a pair of spaced members for controlling relative movement between said members is formed of two different hardness plastic materials and includes a rigid base and a flexible top member forming an internal air chamber therebetween. The top member is movable between collapsed and expanded positions by pressurized air introduced into the internal chamber for relative movement of the spaced members. The base has a sidewall terminating in a peripheral edge on which the top member is sealingly secured by a hot welded joint. A central portion of the top member has a raised thickened portion which engages one of the spaced members. A stop is located within the internal chamber to maintain the central portion of the top member above the peripheral edge of the base to prevent contact of the spaced member with the sealed joint when the top member is in the collapsed position. An air passage is formed in the base to enable the pressurized air to enter the internal chamber.

    摘要: Vacuum manipulation apparatus includes a lifting hose coupled to a vacuum-generating unit. The lifting hose incorporates a suction gripping device having a suction end adapted for placement against an object to be grasped and lifted. The device includes a flow opening plate adapted to be opened for preventing an abrupt rise of the gripping device upon unintentional release of the grasped object against gravitational forces. In a non-grasping mode, a retractable, spring-loaded push rod extends from the suction end of the device. The push rod retracts whenever the suction gripping device engages a grasped object. A blocking arm attached to the push rod engages the flow opening plate to hold the plate normally closed during the grasping mode. When suction is broken between the grasped object and the suction end of the gripping device, the push rod extends from the device, however, opening the flow opening plate to admit airflow.

    摘要: A method of lifting storage tanks by using pressurized bags and support members. Lifting the tank allows for visual inspection under the tank for corrosion to prevent leakage of environmentally hazardous chemicals stored in the tank. The lifting bags are placed under the tank, inflated, and support timbers placed under the raised tank. The bags are then deflated allowing the tank to rest on the support timbers. The deflated bags are raised by placing support timbers under the bags. The bags are again pressurized further raising the tank. The steps are repeated until the tank is lifted to the desired height. Ground suction is broken by raising one side of the tank with the lifting bags, placing supports as far as possible under the tank rim and depressurizing the bags to rock the other side of the tank off the ground. A fulcrum method is also applied to use the partial weight of the tank as a leverage force to alternately raise opposite sides of the tank.

A locking mechanism for holding the jack head in its elevated position, including a hydraulically controlled expansible plunger member connected to the jack head. The hydraulic fluid is introduced into the expansible plunger member through a check valve by the motive force of the compressed air. The jack head is lowered by relieving the compressed air within the bag member and by overriding the check valve to permit reverse flow of the hydraulic fluid from the extensible plunger member into a reservoir.

    摘要: A pair of relatively rigid planar members overlying each other are coupled about their edges by a flexible film band to form a jacking plenum chamber. The upper planar member functions as the load support, bearing a gas inlet hole adjacent one edge whose diameter is approximately twice the size of an outlet hole adjacent the edge of the underlying planar member to the opposite end of the jacking plenum chamber whereby, a gas under pressure entering on end of the jacking plenum chamber and escaping through the outer end, functions to jack the load and upper relatively rigid planar member to a height defined by the height of the flexible band. The holes at the opposite ends of the chamber provide load stabilization during jacking. The lower rigid member may further bear a thin flexible sheet perforated over a major central portion which is edged jointly to the lower planar member to define an air bearing planar chamber therebetween with the assembly functioning as an air pallet with integral jacking chamber. Side by side separate air inlets to the jacking plenum chamber and the air bearing plenum chamber are fed by a slidable valve member bearing the pressurized gas supply permits the selective jacking, air bearing or combined action. One or more tubes bearing perforations on the lower surface and selectively pressurized or subject to vacuum pressure penetrate into cavities beneath a conventional wooden pallet to effect a combined air pallet and jacking application to conventional wooden pallets, with ease of entry and removal of the combined air pallet and jacking tube or tubes.
