Abstract:
A calibration mechanism is positioned in a scanning device having a scanning module for scanning a document. The scanning module defines a scanning line perpendicular to a scanned area of the document. The calibration mechanism includes a calibration unit, a supporting unit supporting the calibration unit, and a driving unit. The calibration unit is positioned to face the scanning module and aligned with the scanning line. The driving unit drives the calibration unit to move close to the scanning module and away from the scanning module along the scanning line. The scanning module obtains great brightness value by scanning the calibration unit, if the calibration unit is close to the scanning module. The scanning module obtains small brightness value by scanning the calibration unit, if the calibration unit is far from the scanning module.
Abstract:
According to aspects of the embodiments, there is provided an apparatus that includes a calibration member that is disposed within a calibration holder and is movable to a position within the optical path of the scanner head assembly. The apparatus can perform optical analysis of images on sheets, comprising a structure forming a baffle for passage of a sheet therethrough, and a photosensor disposed to receive light reflected from a sheet in the baffle. In particular, this embodiment employs a shutter plate mounted to a rack and pinion system where the shutter plate serves the dual purpose of presenting the calibration member to the scanner when engaged into the paper path and when retracted, the backside of the shutter serves as a paper guide.
Abstract:
An image reading apparatus which supports a both-side scan mode and a controlling method thereof. The image reading apparatus includes: an automatic paper transfer unit which automatically transfers a papers; a first scanning unit which comprises a first light source and scans a first side of the paper; a second scanning unit which comprises a second light source and scans a second side of the paper; and a controller which controls the first and second light sources to be alternately lit on a plurality of times within a cycle of a preset signal when the paper is transferred to the automatic paper transfer unit.
Abstract:
An image reading apparatus includes an apparatus body; a transport device that is openable and closable; an image reading unit disposed in one of the apparatus body and the transport device and reading an image of the document transported by the transport device; a member to be read that is disposed in the other of the apparatus body and the transport device at a position opposite the image reading unit when the transport device is closed, the member to be read being read by the image reading unit; and a control unit that causes the image reading unit to read the member to be read at a predetermined time, and if the transport device is open at the predetermined time, causes the image reading unit to read the member to be read when the document is transported by the transport device.
Abstract:
An image reading apparatus which is capable of performing accurate shading correction with simple arrangement while preventing a reference member from being scratched and preventing paper powder and the like dust from being deposited on the reference member. The image reading apparatus includes an image reading unit in which a contact glass guides an original on an image reading location. The contact glass is held by a glass holding member. A line image sensor reads the image on the original conveyed on the image reading location, through the contact glass. The image reading unit further includes a reference member whose image is readable by the image sensor, and a moving mechanism to move the image sensor so as to enable the image sensor to alternatively read the original and a reference surface of the reference member.
Abstract:
An image reading device to read an image carried on a document, including: an image reading section to read an image carried on a document; a polygonal member, mounted to face the image reading section, and spaced from the image reading section at a predetermined distance, the polygonal member includes a document feeding flat surface which faces the image reading section when the document is fed thereon, a white flat surface, and a black flat surface; a light source to emit light rays onto the image carried on the document, and onto the polygonal member when the document is not fed; and a control section to control an amount of the light rays emitted from the light source; wherein the control section corrects an amount of light rays concerning the white color and the black color, based on the amount of the light rays read by the image reading section.
Abstract:
An image reader is provided, which includes a light-emitting-timing setting unit configured to divide a non-light-emitting time during which none of light sources emits light in a predetermined reading period into a plurality of segmental non-light-emitting times and set a light-emitting moment separately for each light source as a moment to emit the light in the predetermined reading period, such that the segmental non-light-emitting times are arranged in a dispersed manner in the predetermined reading period, and a controller configured to control each light source to emit the light during a light-emitting time determined separately for each light source at the light-emitting moment set by the light-emitting-timing setting unit.
Abstract:
A scanner includes a reference backing member, a scan assembly and a light-obstruction member. The scan assembly, disposed opposite the reference backing member, scans a reference block of the reference backing member and an original block of an original in a scan region. The scan assembly includes a light source for emitting a first light beam in a direction toward the reference block, and emitting a second light beam in a direction toward the original block. The light-obstruction member, disposed between the reference backing member and the scan assembly, includes a light-obstruction part, disposed in a first optical path of the first light beam and outside a second optical path of the second light beam, for blocking a portion of the first light beam from reaching the reference block.
Abstract:
Embodiments of a method performed by an image capture device are provided. The method includes performing a calibration operation on a photosensor array of the image capture device using a background surface with a substantially uniform grey color and performing a scan operation to capture a scanned image from a medium using the background surface.
