According to the invention the door frame comprises an integral piece of conductive material having, in section, a generally U-shaped configuration, forming said quarter wave choke, with the outer leg of the U shorter than the inner leg, the door sheet is situated in a plane with the outer end of the inner leg of the U, where it is electrically connected to the said leg. The metallic door sheet extends beyond the inner leg and beyond the shorter, outer leg of the U so that the entrance opening to the inside of the U, forming the cavity of the quarter wave choke, is constituted by the gap between the outer shorter leg of the U and the extension of the metallic door sheet.

A microwave cooking oven door assembly is disclosed in which the entire door assembly is made of a bonded laminar construction which is self-supporting and shatterproof. The door assembly comprises a relatively thin sheet of metal having an array of closely spaced perforations formed therein. The array of perforations functions as a viewing window to the inside of the oven cavity. In one embodiment, the sheet of metal is sandwiched between a pair of glass panels and bonded thereto by layers of adhesive material. In another embodiment, the metal sheet is positioned between a glass panel and a thin film of polycarbonate, and bonded thereto by layers of adhesive material. The layers of adhesive material can be either coextensive with the laminar sheets and panels, or they can extend only around the borders thereof. In both embodiments the laminated construction is subjected to thermal compression to enable the various layers to adhere to each other.

The inner surface of the window opening is covered with a perforated microwave radiation barrier, while the outer surface of the opening is fitted with a transparent interference barrier. Air passages are formed in the door to permit a current of ambient air to sweep the inner surface of the transparent barrier as well as to serve as an oven venting means. This transparent barrier may be quickly removed from the door for ease of cleaning. A portion of the door frame is integral with the transparent barrier for ease of handling this barrier.
