The present invention relates to a device for preventing microwave leakage for a microwave oven. The present invention comprises a cavity assembly formed with an opening portion through which heating energy generated in an energy generating means is supplied into a cooking chamber provided within the cavity assembly; a cover provided on a side of the cavity assembly to cover the opening portion; and a choke member provided between the cavity assembly and the cover to prevent microwave supplied into the cooking chamber from leaking through a gap between the cavity assembly and the cover. According to the present invention, there is an advantage in that microwave is effectively prevented from leaking through a gap, which is formed when installing a heating means for providing a heating source in addition to the microwave.

A heater cover for microwave ovens using halogen heaters in addition to magnetrons is disclosed. The above heater cover is designed to have an optimal opening ratio while effectively protecting the halogen heaters from microwaves and having a desired structural strength. On the heater cover, a plurality of perforations are formed along a plurality of rows with both the same interval between the perforations and a radius "r" of each perforation being three times or more of the interval. The interval between horizontal phantom lines, passing through the centers of the perforations arranged on the rows, is shorter than the diameter "2r" of each perforation. The relation between the radius "r" of each perforation and the wavelength ".lambda." of microwaves is expressed by the expression, .lambda./64 .ltoreq.2r .ltoreq..lambda./8. The interval between the perforations ranges from 0.5 mm to 2 mm.

A cooking apparatus includes a fan 13 provided at the top wall of a heating chamber 2 with its front face directed downwards. A spiral coil 14 in the form of a flat disc is provided around a rotation shaft 12 above the heating chamber 2. When high-frequency current is supplied to the coil 14, the coil 14 generates an alternating magnetic flux. The magnetic flux penetrates a shielding plate 16 and the fan 13, whereby the fan 13 is inductively heated. The fan 13 draws air from the heating chamber 2 and propels the air back to the heating chamber 2, where the air is heated when it contacts the fan 13. As a result, the temperature in the heating chamber rises, so that an object placed on a turntable 5 is cooked. By such a constitution, it is not necessary to keep additional space open for a heating element because the fan 13 functions as a heating element. Accordingly, it is possible to enlarge the diameter of the fan 13 so that the blowing efficiency is enhanced. Also, by this constitution, the number of parts is reduced and the structure is simplified.

Apparatus for thawing and reheating a deep-frozen food preparation by microwave and infrared radiation comprises a housing enclosing a heating chamber which is delimited by a tubular wall. The chamber is subjected to microwave radiation from two inlets as well as infrared radiation. The inlets of microwave radiation are arranged in two opposed regions of the tubular wall situated on either side of the central region where the food product is positioned, and the infrared heating elements comprise at least two lamps extending axially of the tubular wall and arranged on either side of the central region in two opposed regions distinct from those of the wave guide openings. A heating process performed using this apparatus involves simultaneously producing continuous microwave radiation by alternately feeding two generators branched in anti-parallel, and continuous infrared radiation, throughout a thawing and reheating cycle.

A combined microwave and conventionally heated oven includes first and second chambers separated from one another by a partition including first and second spaced panels which define a cavity therebetween. These panels are both metallic, except where the microwave waveguide passes through rectangular gaps in them, in which are situated rectangular, non-metallic, infrared-absorbing panels of the same size. A microwave generator is provided in the second chamber for generating microwaves for use in heating a product positioned in the first chamber. Convention heater(s) (gas and/or electrical resistance) is/are also provided. A stream of cooling air reduces the temperature within the cavity in order to insulate the second chamber from the transfer of heat emitted from the first chamber in operation of the conventional heater(s). Infrared radiation absorbing panels mentioned at the end of the microwave waveguide, and forming non-metallic sections of the above cavity's walls, permit the passage of microwaves from the microwave generator through the partition to the first chamber. This is in order to carry out microwave heating of the product while absorbing infrared radiation emitted from the hot first chamber that would otherwise travel back through the microwave waveguide and thermally damage the heat-sensitive microwave generator. A method for heating a product in this combination oven is also disclosed.
