摘要:
A projectile (14) for an ammunition round (10) for use with a small arms or light firearm comprises an elongated projectile body (16). The projectile body (16) has first and second axially opposed ends (18, 20) respectively and a cavity (20) extending there between. The cavity is able to hold a quantity of propellant (24). A plurality of seals (26) extend about an outer surface of the body (16). The seals (26) protrude radially from the body (16) and operate to form a substantial seal against an inner circumferential surface of a barrel (12) of the firearm. Two of the seals (26b and 26c) are mutually adjacent and spaced apart in a direction of a longitudinal axis of the body to form a seal bound outer surface portion (36) of the body (16). One or more holes (38) are formed in the body (16) enabling fluid communication between the cavity (22) and the seal bound outer surface portion (36) of the body (16). This enables pressure equalization inside and outside of the cavity (22) about the seal bound outer surface portion (36) when the projectile (14) is travelling through the barrel (12).

A launcher system includes a launcher having a sealed breech and a barrel adapted to receive a projectile with a charge of propellant and a mechanism to vary the launch velocity by selectively controlling the propellant gases vented out of the projectile and into the barrel. A collar can be repositioned through rotation or sliding movement to selectively allow propellant gases to vent out of the barrel or stop propellant gases from venting out of the barrel. When the collar is in a closed or non-venting configuration, propellant gasses build-up pressure behind the projectile, resulting in a relatively high launch velocity and, when the collar is in the open or venting configuration, a relatively low launch velocity is produced. A sliding breech face and energy-absorbing plug can also be provided to further decrease launch velocity.

A launcher system includes a launcher having a barrel adapted to receive a projectile and a charge of propellant and a velocity variator configured to shift relative to barrel to selectively vary a launch velocity of projectile from launcher. The velocity variator may be constituted by a collar selectively controlling the propellant gases vented out of projectile and into barrel and/or a sliding breech face behind which is an energy-absorbing plug.

Apparatus for rendering at least a portion of a device inoperable may include a containment structure having a first compartment that is configured to receive a device therein and a movable member configured to receive a cartridge having reactant material therein. The movable member is configured to be inserted into the first compartment of the containment structure and to ignite the reactant material within the cartridge. Methods of rendering at least a portion of a device inoperable may include disposing the device into the first compartment of the containment structure, inserting the movable member into the first compartment of the containment structure, igniting the reactant material in the cartridge, and expelling molten metal onto the device.

A propellant charge body for insertion into a propellant charge chamber in a firearm for firing caseless ammunition has a base body which contains a propellant charge. The diameter of the base body is less than the internal diameter of the propellant charge chamber. Radial projections are formed in one or more subareas on the circumference of the base body and match the radius of the base body in these subareas to the internal radius of the propellant charge chamber.

The following invention relates to a mount for holding a charge in a breech. The mount attaches, or is integral to, a charge and is provided with a dilation means which rests within a breech of a gun to prevent the charge from sliding back out of the breech when the gun is held at a high angle. The dilation means is fabricated from a material which, when the gun is fired, combusts to leave negligible debris in the breech.

A consumable premeasured charge for use with an intended black powder firearm having barrel with a desired caliber, the consumable premeasured charge comprising a closed container defining an interior chamber and loose granular gunpowder filling a volume of the interior chamber to between 50 and approximately 100%. The closed container being sized to be loaded within a gun barrel of the intended firearm. A method of forming consumable premeasured charge is also disclosed.

Projectile stacking systems in which individual projectiles are clipped together to form a stack. The projectiles may be joined individually by a user before loading in a barrel, or during a loading process assisted by features on the breech of the barrel. The tail of each projectile includes a set of clips which engage the nose of a trailing projectile in the stack. Projectiles may be withdrawn from barrel and undipped as required by the user.

A fixed round of ammunition for a muzzle loader firearm. The round has a bullet within a sabot that is engaged to a consumable cartridge case. The case is filled with propellant that is precisely calibrated to provide optimal ballistic properties with the particular bullet it is engaged to. The consumable cartridge case can be more tailored to respectively increase or decrease the burn rate of the consumable cartridge case. The consumable cartridge case can be constructed out of nitrocellulose or other energetic materials. A wide range of propellant formulas can be used that are safe because the burn rate is precisely calibrated for the bullet used. The propellant can contain pyrotechnic material and/or other ingredients to reduce the burn rate of a smokeless propellant and can contain a stabilizer to increase the shelf life of the ammunition round.
