摘要: A method of providing spark ignition for an engine or other equipment having a combustion chamber. A radio frequency wave or a microwave (RF/microwave) generator delivers radio frequency waves or microwaves to a transmit antenna inside the combustion chamber. At least one RF/microwave receive antenna is attached to an internal surface of the combustion chamber and comprises two or more RF/microwave focusing features with a spark gap between them. The transmit antenna wirelessly energizes the receive antenna, which generates a spark between the two focusing features.

摘要: An ignition coil for internal combustion engines is provided which includes a primary coil, a secondary coil, a case, a closing member, and a filled resin. The case includes a case body and a high-voltage tower. The closing member is press fit in the high -voltage tower to close the inside of the high-voltage tower. The closing member includes a resinous cylinder, a high-voltage terminal firmly attached to the resinous cylinder, and a resistor fit in the high-voltage terminal. The high-voltage terminal is of a hollow cylindrical shape with a bottom and an upper opening. The closing member has an outer peripheral surface of the resinous cylinder press-fit in the high-voltage tower. This structure minimizes pressure exerted on the resistor and the high-voltage tower to secure a desired degree of durability of the resistor and the high-voltage tower.

摘要: A method is disclosed for producing a corona discharge for igniting an air/fuel mixture in an internal combustion engine. An igniter is provided having a discharge tip that protrudes into a combustion zone. During a first stage of a combustion process, a first primary winding of a RF transformer is driven at a first predetermined voltage level and at a first resonant frequency that is based on a first impedance in the combustion zone prior to onset of combustion, for generating a corona discharge at the tip of the igniter. During a second stage subsequent to the first stage, a second primary winding of the RF transformer is driven at a second predetermined voltage level and at a second resonant frequency that is based on a second impedance in the combustion zone at a time that is subsequent to onset of the combustion process.

摘要: An ignition system (10) comprises a high voltage transformer (12) comprising a primary winding (12.1) and a secondary winding (12.2). A primary resonant circuit (26) is formed by the primary winding (12.1) and a primary circuit capacitance (24). A secondary resonant circuit (16) is formed by an ignition plug (14), as a load, the secondary winding (12.2); the ignition plug (14) being represented by a secondary circuit capacitance (18) and a secondary circuit load resistance (Rp) put in parallel. Said load resistance value varies during an ignition cycle. The primary resonant circuit (26) and the secondary resonant circuit (16) have a common mode resonance frequency (fc) and a differential mode resonance frequency (fd). A controller (28) is configured to cause a drive circuit (22) to drive the primary winding at a frequency, which is either the common-mode resonance frequency (fc) or the differential mode resonance frequency (fd) and is connected to a feed-back circuit (50) to adapt the frequency of the primary winding to the variable load resistance.
