摘要： A motorless label printer employs a matrix ink jet print head under which a continuous web of labels is moved during printing. An encoder in the path of the web is rotated to generate pulses signifying the position of the labels with respect to a reference that is signalled by detection of an aperture on the web by an electric eye. The printer includes a support for a spool of the web and a delaminator for separating the printed labels from the web substrate.

摘要： A protective book covering including a relatively long piece of sheet material and a relatively short piece of sheet material overlying the long piece, the longitudinal edges of the two sheets being sealed together. A seal and tear line extending transverse to their longitudinal edges joins the two pieces and forms a line of severance along which the pieces can be torn to produce two units, each unit having a pocket adjacent to the seal and tear line for accommodating one of the covers of a book. One of the units has a section, extending from the pocket of that unit, long enough to wrap around the spine of the book, and be secured to the other unit. The sheet material is preferably transparent plastic. The book covering can be made in a continuous manner by providing independent lengths of relatively wide and relatively narrow plastic sheet material, and placing the lengths in face-to-face contact so that their longitudinal axes extend in the same direction. The two lengths are heated sealed together along a line parallel to their longitudinal axes but spaced form their longitudinal edges, and both lengths are heat sealed together and severed along lines transverse to their longitudinal axes. A strip of adhesive may be applied along one longitudinal edge of the wide length of material.

摘要： An opener for a videotape cassette case of the type having a body and a cover hinged to the body, the body and cover presenting two parallel spaced-apart flanges when the case is closed. The opener includes a rigid element, which may be a flat plate, having a shoulder portion wider than the spacing between the case flanges when the case is closed, the shoulder portion tapering toward a nose portion which is narrower than the spacing between the case flanges when the case is closed. A closed videotape cassette case is opened by inserting the nose portion of the opener into one end of the space between the flanges and moving the case with respect to the opener so as to bring the shoulder portion between the flanges to urge the flanges apart. Continued movement of the case with respect to the shoulder portion of the opener causes the flanges to progressively separate from each other so as to pry the cover from the body and thereby open the case. The opener is mounted on a stationary surface so that the case can be opened simply by running the side of the case presenting the flanges along the opener.
