At least two strategically located, direct tap, natural output points are provided at each side of the delta. For 6-phase output, only the six natural output points are required. For 9-phase output, an additional central output terminal connects to each side of the delta through a stub winding. The 6-phase or 9-phase output is passed to a rectifier circuit.

A communication microcircuit is provided in the stem. The communication microcircuit is connected to one coil of a stem transformer, with the other coil of the stem transformer being electrically connected to one coil of an axle transformer. The other coil of the axle transformer is coupled to an axle communication circuit which powers the axle and stem circuits and polls the sensors to determine tire pressure.

The impeller and drum of a motorless in-line mass flowmeter are constructed with small optical targets having high reflectivity. Light is pulsed toward the path of rotation of the targets through optical fibers. The pulse width is small in comparison to the delay between pulses. Reflections of the pulses from the optical targets are conveyed by a single output fiber to a remote location where the optical pulses are converted to electrical pulses. The electrical pulses can be analyzed to determine the speed of the impeller and the deflection angle of the impeller relative to the drum, for accurate determination of the mass flow rate of liquid passing through the flowmeter.

A power supply system for controlling the drive voltages applied to a thin film electroluminescent (TFEL) display panel is disclosed. The system includes a power supply that generates the drive voltages to the TFEL display panel and causes it to emit light. A replaceable or resettable display voltage memory located adjacent the display panel provides the power supply with voltage information specific to the display panel. A feedback circuit measures the light emitted from the display panel. A balancing circuit controls multiple display voltages so that they have the proper relationship with respect to each other. The information from the display voltage memory and the feedback circuit is used by the power supply to control the output of the display voltages.

Disclosed is an improved fiber optic sensor of the type in which a fiber optic waveguide component of the sensor is configured to be responsive to an external parameter such that curvature of the fiber optic waveguide is altered in response to forces induced by changes in the external parameter being sensed. The alteration of the curvature of the fiber optic waveguide causes variations in the intensity of light passing therethrough, these variations being indicative of the state of the external parameter. The improvement comprises coating material covering the exterior portion of the fiber optic waveguide, the coating material having an expansion coefficient and thickness such that distortion of the fiber optic waveguide caused by thermally induced stresses between the coating material and the glass fiber is substantially eliminated. Also disclosed is a support member for supporting the curved fiber optic waveguide, the support member and fiber optic waveguide being configured and arranged to minimize the effects of thermal stress tending to separate the waveguide from the support member.

Disclosed is a fiber optic sensing system wherein a pulsed light source signal (12) propagates along a single optical waveguide (14) and is split into component signals (20) and (22) at a sensor unit (16). The intensity of one component signal (20) is varied by a transducer (28) through which the signal passes. The second, reference, component signal (22) passes through a delay optical fiber (30) and has its propagation delayed with respect to the other component signal (20). The delayed and undelayed component signals are then coupled and propagate along a single waveguide (34) to a receiver (36). The system is constructed so that intensity-varying factors inherent in the system, other than the sensor-induced variations, are identically shared by the two component signals. Accordingly, signal processing circuitry (38) calculates a simple ratio of the delayed and undelayed signals which yields the sensor-intensity variation independent of any other intensity-varying factors.

A problem that is often encountered under uneven terrain conditions with on-board load weighing systems for vehicles, such as logging trucks, having a frame member and a load support member to which a load which is to be measured is applied, is that structural failures occur in the load cell assemblies included in the on-board load weighing system. The cause of these structural failures is traced to rotation of the load cell assemblies resulting in undue tensive forces in the load cells thereof. Various restraining devices are discussed for limiting the upward deflection of an upper, load concentrating portion of the load cell to maintain the tensive forces within acceptable levels.

A bridge rectifier having a plurality of rectifiers is coupled to respective individual correction windings. Phases of the individual correction windings are asymmetric such that individual phase voltages are controlled relative to the opposite input phase. Voltages are unbalanced relative to neutral.

The current induced in the first single metal loop travels the distance from the edge of the wheel axle coil to the periphery of the of the wheel rim to the second single metal loop, which generates the flux in the tire pressure sensor receiver coil necessary to power the tire pressure sensor.
