The present invention relates to a system and a method of optimizing the selection of shops to repair railcars. More specifically, the present invention relates to a system and a method whereby a customer needing to have a railcar repaired may enter information into an input. Further, the input may be processed via a processor and a database may be utilized to determine the optimal shop that can be used to repair the railcar. Moreover, the present invention may allow the shops to be notified that a railcar is being sent to the shops. Further the present invention may determine whether the shops may handle the repair of the railcar. The system and the method may be utilized to reduce the repair cycle time for a railcar so that a railcar may be repaired quickly, inexpensively, and efficiently.

Train derails are used in the railroad industry for derailing and therefore effectively stopping trains or unattended rolling stocks which rolls over said derail. The lock extension device comprises a locking device allowing an individual to lock said lock extension device to a derail while standing in an upright position, thereby diminishing injuries that may occur with prior art locking devices that are at ground level.

In order to improve the safety with which commodities (including regulated hazardous materials) can be shipped by rail around the country in tank cars and the like, each tank and associated undercarriage and structure is inspected and requalified according to an exhaustive predetermined list of sites, tests, parameters and apparatus comprising, broadly, determining which type of vehicle is under inspection and selecting an exhaustive list of sites to be inspected for the identified type of vehicle from an instruction set. Each of the listed sites is inspected in accord with the instructions set forth for each of the listed sites in the instruction set and the data derived from implementation of the tests conducted at each of the exhaustive list of sites is recorded.

A ventilated transportable freight container is disclosed. The container is ventilated by natural convection through at least one lower side vent comprising a lower plenum chamber for distributing air into the container and restricting entry of moisture in the form of rain, sleet or snow into the container and at least one upper top vent, including a plenum chamber. The upper top vent or vents may be formed in the sidewall of the enclosure or in the roof of the enclosure depending upon the structure of the container and the particular application. The use of one or more upper top vents enhances circulation of air by natural convection. The invention also incorporates sidewall and endwall spacers extending from the sidewalls and endwalls into the enclosure to provide passageways for the circulation of air to ventilate the enclosure and a path for condensation drainage. In one embodiment of the invention, the transportable freight container of present invention comprises a rail freight car. In another embodiment of the invention, at least one of the lower plenum chambers of the container extends lower than the floor of the enclosure to allow drainage from the enclosure. The container may also incorporate a layer of insulating material on the interior surface of the roof of the container to inhibit condensation of moisture. The freight container of the present invention is particularly adapted to the transport of baled material, such as pulp, which is typically shipped or transported in bales of approximately one cubic yard.

Specifically, the system and method includes a standardized inspection process that may assess a condition of a particular piece of rail equipment. Moreover, the data entry system may query a user to input the condition information, and any other information, into a database. The information may be utilized to generate reports as to the condition of the railcar equipment, an estimated cost of repair for the railcar equipment, the location of the railcar equipment, and the disposition of the railcar equipment.
