Abstract: A submerged combustion burner, a submerged combustion melter including the submerged combustion burner, and method of operating the submerged combustion burner are disclosed. The submerged combustion burner includes central burner tube and a heat pipe that surrounds and extends beyond a terminal end of the central burner tube. When received in a burner opening defined in a melting tank of a submerged combustion melter, the heat pipe of the submerged combustion burner is disposed between the central burner tube and the floor of the melting tank. The heat pipe transfers or pumps heat via a sealed working fluid to a cooling fluid that thermally communicates with the heat pipe exterior to the melting tank.

Abstract: A glass melting furnace and method for introducing batch feed material into a glass melter tank of the glass melting furnace are disclosed. The glass melting furnace comprises the glass melter tank, a feeder tank, and at least one conduit. The glass melter tank defines at least one melter tank inlet, a molten glass outlet, and an exhaust gas outlet, and the feeder tank, which is separate from the glass melter tank, defines a batch feed inlet and a feeder tank outlet. The at least one conduit is in fluid communication with the feeder tank outlet and the melter tank inlet. Moreover, the melter tank inlet is defined below a melt level of a glass melt contained within the glass melter tank and at least partially filling the at least one conduit.

Abstract: A robotic mold lubrication system and glass container forming system having the robotic mold lubrication system. The robotic mold lubrication system includes a rail, a carriage moveable along the rail, a motor for moving the carriage along the rail, a tank carried by the carriage and holding lubricant, and a lubricant applicator subsystem having an applicator. The system further includes a robot, an object detection sensor, and an onboard control system carried on the carriage and having at least one processor and memory for storing computer instructions. The robot and the object detection sensor are carried by the carriage. The onboard control system is configured to use the at least one processor to control movement of the carriage along the rail based on sensor data obtained from the object detection sensor.

Abstract: A method of of fining low-density submerged combustion glass includes introducing unfined molten glass produced in a submerged combustion melter into a fining chamber of a fining tank and, further, introducing additive particles into the fining chamber that comprise a glass reactant material and one or more fining agents. The one or more fining agents are released into the molten glass bath upon consumption of the additive particles in the molten glass bath to chemically fine the molten glass bath and the glass reactant material includes one or more materials that integrate into the molten glass bath upon melting. Additionally, the method includes discharging fined molten glass out of the fining chamber of the fining tank. The discharged fined molten glass has a volume percentage of gas bubbles that is less than the volume percentage of gas bubbles in the unfined molten glass introduced into the fining chamber.

Abstract: Disclosed are configurations of inner and outer shells for a multi-piece closure assembly. The inner shell includes a base wall, and an outer skirt extending away from the base wall, carrying external thread segments, and including an axially outward portion, and an axially inward portion terminating in a grip petal portion having petals with radially inwardly projecting container engagement lugs and radially outwardly projecting outer shell engagement lugs. The outer shell includes a base wall, an inner skirt extending away from the base wall, and an outer skirt extending away from an outer periphery of the base wall at a location spaced radially outwardly from the inner skirt and including an internally threaded portion carrying internal thread segments and an unthreaded extension extending away from the threaded portion and on an axial side of the internally threaded portion opposite that of the base wall.
