摘要: A system and method for delivering an embolic device are disclosed. In one embodiment, the system and method may be directed to a combination of a catheter, coupler, and embolic device. The coupler is disposed inside of the catheter. The embolic device is coupled with a retaining mechanism at the proximal end. Until the embolic device is delivered to a certain location within an artery, the embolic device is engaged with the catheter by engaging the coupler with the retaining mechanism. The embolic device is further secured to the delivery catheter by securing the coupler with a securing mechanism formed on the catheter. When the delivery catheter reaches the desired location in the artery, the embolic device is released from the delivery catheter by simply pulling the coupler proximally such that the loop portion of the coupler first becomes disengaged from the locking window and then from the retaining mechanism.

摘要: An intravascular balloon catheter comprises a tubular catheter body having a balloon structure removably mounted over the catheter body. The catheter body has a guidewire lumen, and the catheter body may be left in place within a patient's vasculature while the balloon structure is withdrawn and optionally a second balloon structure introduced over the catheter body. The catheter and methods of the present invention are particularly suitable for performing angioplasty and subsequent procedures, such as stent placement, which are best performed using successive interventional balloon structures.

摘要: Telescoping, self-driving, and laterally-pushing atherectomy devices are provided, each having a flexible sheath, a cutter with helical flutes, and a drive assembly. The drive assembly can have a flexible driveshaft that is rotatably translational with the lumen of the flexible sheath, a positive displacement pump that begins pumping at the distal end of the drive shaft adjacent to the helical flutes at the proximal end of the cutter, and the flexible drive shaft can be longer than the flexible sheath to enable a reversible telescoping of the drive assembly from the lumen of the flexible sheath. The positive displacement pump can be a screw pump having a drive screw portion extending beyond the flexible sheath, exposed for contact with a vascular lumen for the self-driving. And, the devices can have a reversibly-expandable, lateral pushing member at the distal end of the flexible sheath for the lateral pushing.

摘要: Disclosed are example embodiments of an endovascular coil having a twisted figure 8 shape. The endovascular coil includes: a first loop; a second loop; and an inflection region where a portion of the first loop transitions into a portion of the second loop. The second loop is rotated about an axis parallel to the longitudinal axis of the first loop to create the twisted figure 8 shape. The twist adds more randomness and variability to the filling behavior of the endovascular coil. The added randomness and variability enables the twisted figure 8 coil to better fill the void of irregular-shaped aneurysms than other conventional embolic coils.

摘要: A system and method for sheathing and resheathing a delivery catheter for embolic device are disclosed. An embodiment is directed to an embolic device delivery system that includes a delivery catheter having an embolic device coupler, a locking tube disposed about the delivery catheter, a protective sheath, and a sheath outer component disposed about the protective sheath configured to unsheathe and resheathe the delivery catheter, and smooth transferring of the embolic device into a microcatheter. In one embodiment, the coupler may be an elongated shape having a loop portion for engaging the coil toward the distal end of the delivery catheter. The loop portion of the coupler may be an elastic material or a shape-memory alloy, such as Nitinol or nickel titanium, such that the loop portion is bendable at various angles. Together, the delivery catheter and coupler may be inserted into an artery and carry an embolic device to an aneurysm for placement near an aneurysm.
