Abstract:
A radio frequency (RF) modem for a mobile communications device comprises a monitoring circuit; an RF circuit having a demodulator, the RF circuit being for receiving RF signals; a baseband processing unit, for processing baseband signals; and a controller. The RF modem can enter a sleep mode in which the monitoring circuit is operational and the RF circuit and the baseband processing unit are not operational. The controller is responsive to an indication from the monitoring circuit to control the RF modem to enter a monitoring mode in which the RF circuit is operational and the baseband processing unit is not operational. The RF circuit is configured for data reception in the monitoring mode. The controller then controls the RF modem to exit the monitoring mode and to enter a baseband processing mode in which the baseband processing unit is operational to process data signals provided by the RF circuit.
Abstract:
A method is provided for a user equipment device to request an uplink transmission resource allocation from a base station. The method includes determining whether there is a need for the resource allocation, providing an uplink resource request to be combined with another message if the need for the resource allocation is present, combining the uplink resource request with the other message to form a combined message, and transmitting the combined message to the base station for requesting the resource allocation. The combined message may be a hybrid automatic repeat request message with an uplink resource request field. A user equipment device and a base station of a wireless communication network for performing the method are also provided.
Abstract:
There are disclosed means, namely methods, apparatuses, network elements, systems and computer programs, for assigning, to a user equipment, a default bearer, and for assigning, to the user equipment, a dedicated special-purpose bearer such as an emergency bearer. According to exemplary implementations, the dedicated special-purpose bearer is assigned during network attachment of the user equipment or after network attachment of the user equipment, either in a preemptive or in an on-demand manner.
