Abstract:
A critical parameter/requirements management process model for managing a development program for a product and an associated product structure-driven critical parameter/requirements management tool and environment is provided. In one embodiment, the process includes a product structure classification scheme, a parameter/requirements classification scheme, a parameter/requirements process and maturity model, and in-process and requirements conformance views. In one embodiment, the tool includes a user interface layer, a business layer, a data layer, and a database. The user interface layer may include a product structure feature group, an add/edit/link feature group, a manage maturity feature group, and a manage conformance feature group. The tool may be implemented as a web server accessible to user workstations operating as thin clients. The tool may be integrated with one or more other product development tools, such as a document-driven requirements management, configuration management, manufacturing/production control system, problem management, and phased product delivery process tools.

A pre-heater system and adapted to be used on an electrostatic marking apparatus for improving gloss on media having marking thereon at a location in the apparatus prior to a conventional fuser roll assembly or station, the system including a primary heater adapted to blow pressurized hot air into a surface of an image receiving media in order to substantially dispense hot air throughout an entire paper or media surface; and a preheat media transport for transporting media from the location in the apparatus prior to the conventional fuser roll assembly or station through the primary heater, the preheat media transport includes means for maintaining the preheat media transport at a substantially uniform predefined temperature.

Abstract:
An apparatus for stacking, registering and attaching one or multiple sets of electrophotographic printing machine output. The copy sheets are discharged from the machine and fall into an inclined compiling tray and are longitudinally registered by flexible, endless belts contacting the top surface of each sheet. Each sheet is then laterally shifted by a tamping mechanism which has upwardly flared baffle to corrugate the sheet as it is shifted to increase the sheet beam strength and facilitate easier and more complete registration. The discharge nip assembly which includes the flexible belts is vertically adjustable either based on discharged sheet count or in response to feedback from a stack height sensor so as to maintain optimum contact by the endless registration belt and allow for high capacity compiling. The compiling tray can also be adjustable. Once a complete set of sheets has been discharged and fully registered the stack is then attached by stapling or other means and is discharged from the compiling tray. The discharge nip and compiling tray then return to their home position to accept the next set of copy sheets.

A method generates a test pattern on an image receiving member that is less perceptible to human observation, but still detectable by an imaging device within a printer. A method implemented in the printer analyzes image data of the dashes in the test pattern that were randomly distributed in the process direction within an area of the image receiving member to identify positions for printheads in the printer and detect missing inkjets in the printheads.

At least sequential current and subsequent sheets of a print job are received in a document processing system. Each sheet includes a front image and a back image. The received sheets are scheduled to be printed with at least one of a first and a second sequence by at least one of a first and a second marking engine based on a comparison of the image content in corresponding selected portions of each front and back image.

A system for stacking, registering and fastening printed sheets fed from a reproduction apparatus onto a compiler or other stacking tray, with a plural component vertically extending but laterally movable sheet stacking edge registration system adjacent at least one edge of the stacking tray and a set stapling system movable parallel to the edge registration position to fasten the stack of sheets edge registered in the tray in plural different fastening positions; the edge registration system being movable to provide continuous stapling access therethrough by the set fastening system. The edge registration system is automatically movable in coordination with the stapling system to stay out of its path yet maintain registration of the stack of sheets in the tray at the same edge registration position. The system allows a stapler head with stapling jaws continuously extending into the stacking area to move in a simple linear path parallel to but inside of the edge registration area without obstruction and without requiring complex mechanisms for movements of the copy set, the stapler, or the tray for stapling.

A paper transport system includes an apparatus for controlling movement of the sheets along the predetermined course to provide sheet buffering. The apparatus includes first and second friction surfaces mounted for movement in orbital paths on opposite sides of the predetermined course in opposed relationship to define a nip through which the paper sheets pass. A selectively operable drive is provided for independently controlling the movement of the first and second friction surfaces, and the first friction surface has a coefficient of friction with the paper sheets which is greater than the coefficient of friction of the second surface with the paper sheets which is in turn greater than the coefficient of friction between the paper sheets.

In a sheet output module for the collection and stacking of printed media sheets from the output of a reproduction apparatus, with multiple separate sheet collection bins in a vertical array, a sheet input for receiving the sheets, and a sheet transport path for transporting the sheets to a selected bin; the sheet input is at a central vertical level intermediately of the module and the vertical bin array, the vertical bin array is divided into first and second portions with a central vertical space therebetween, the sheet transport path has a common shared central path from the input to a branching position where it arcuately branches in opposite directions, with a first branch path extending upwardly to feed sheets to the first portion of the bins and a second branch path extending downwardly to feed sheets to the second portion of the bins. A sheet deflector gate is located at this branching position for selectively deflecting sheets from a the common shared path portion into one of these first and second branch paths. A high capacity stacking tray is located within this vertical space between the first and second portions of the vertical array of bins.
