摘要: A gas scrubbing apparatus including at least two modules, each module including at least one process vessel for a gas scrubbing process, each process vessel being selected from an absorber, a regenerator, a scrubber, a reboiler, a heat exchanger or a combination thereof. Each process vessel has top wall, a base wall, and at least three sidewalls formed from a cementitous material. Each process vessel has inlet and outlet ports for fluid entering and leaving the process vessel when in use, formed within at least one of the top wall, base wall, or sidewall of each process vessel. The sidewalls of each process vessel define a polygon shaped cross-section, and at least one side wall of a first process vessel in a first module can be connected or abutted to at least one side wall of a second process vessel in a second module.

摘要: An absorber is provided which uses a liquid solvent formed into a myriad of bubbles and micro-droplets. The solvent froth is a solvent for a selected component in an incoming gas stream. A plurality of spaced apart screen assemblies is placed in a reaction vessel. Using screens having cross-sections that are substantially rectangular wave in design together with proper operating parameters, the phenomenon of solvent plug pulsing is induced and maintained, maximizing efficiency of the absorber.

摘要: An absorber is provided which utilizes a solvent froth to absorb a selected component, such as CO2 for example, from a flowing gas stream, such as flue gas from a fossil fuel power plant, for example. In one embodiment, a flooded tube gas absorber utilizes a bulkhead plate extending across a reaction chamber. The plate carries a plurality of vertical absorption tubes, each carrying a plurality of spaced apart screens. The incoming gas stream flows downwardly and at equal velocities through the tubes. Solvent is injected downwardly into the tubes. The screen array forms a froth and rapidly and repeatedly bursts the froth bubbles, forming a rapidly changing absorption surface. A second embodiment uses full diameter screens without a bulkhead plate. An option is to use ridge shaped screens to achieve solvent pulsing, increasing efficiency. Both vertical and horizontal reaction chambers are disclosed.

摘要: The present invention relates to reactor vessels such as absorbing or stripping columns that are suitable for capturing carbon dioxide from flue gas streams of fossil fuel fired powered stations such as coal fired power stations generating 100 to 500 MW. The side walls of the reactors are made of concrete or structural ceramics that are preferrably steel reinforced. The reactors are on a sufficiently large scale such that a flue gas stream in the order of at least 1,000 t/hr and normally greater than 2,000 or 3,000 t/hr can be scrubbed of carbon dioxide in a single absorption column and then recovered in a stripping column. The absorbing and stripping columns may be free standing structures or, alternatively, the absorbing column may be located at least partially within the stripping column.
