    摘要: A rocker arm assembly includes a U-shaped rocker arm defined by a bottom wall and, two side walls depending upwardly therefrom where the side walls each have a central axle opening to support a transversely extending roller axle. A roller for rolling against a cam is rotatably supported on the roller axle through a roller bearing. The bottom wall of the rocker arm has a centrally located opening providing clearance for rotation of the roller and a spherical socket at a first end of the rocker arm to interface with an upper rounded end of a hydraulic lash adjuster. An oiling channel is provided along the bottom wall extending from the spherical socket, towards the roller, to terminate at the centrally located opening for channeling oil expelled from the hydraulic lash adjuster, wherein reciprocation of the rocker arm flings oil from the channel to the roller and roller bearing for lubrication.

    摘要: Valve lift mechanism for an engine includes a two step variable valve lifter having roller followers for engaging multiple cams on an associated camshaft of the engine and an anti-rotation guide mounted in the engine externally of a cylindrical bore receiving the lifter. The guide engages an axial guide recess in the lifter body without requiring a corresponding recess in the bore. The lifter also has a saddle in a central low lift cam follower engagable by lock pins in an annular body of an associated high lift cam follower to lock the followers together for high valve lift operation. The saddle is disposed axially between a follower roller and a high pressure chamber of a hydraulic lash adjuster of the low lift cam follower so that lock pin loads are transmitted as compressive forces through the low lift follower. The high lift follower rollers are received in pockets having sides that are crowned by shallow convex curvatures defining axially extending ridges which limit axial motion of the rollers so that the rubbing surface and associated friction are limited. Various additional specific features are disclosed. Application of the features to other valve lifters and cam followers is anticipated.

    摘要: A cam follower having a clamp disposed on at least one end thereof. The follower includes two opposing sidewalls interconnected by a lower pallet. A roller is rotatably mounted to and disposed between the sidewalls via needled or journal bearings or other rotatable connection known in the art. A clamp is disposed about an end of the follower to induce compression force in the pallet and possibly act as the valve guide walls. The clamp increases the stiffness of the follower and induces compressive stress in the pallet area thereby increasing fatigue life. The clamp could also increase the length of the valve guide walls for better stability during engine assembly.

    摘要: A valve actuator for an engine includes a pivot socket having a dome with an improved lubrication passage. The actuator may be a finger follower with a body having spaced side walls connected adjacent opposite ends by first and second transverse webs. A cam follower, preferably a roller, having a cam engaging surface is supported on the side walls between the opposite ends of the body. The first web is engagable with a valve while the second web has a pivot socket with a dome having a generally spherical lower recess for engaging a pivot and a domed upper surface adjacent to the follower cam engaging surface. A lubrication passage extends through the dome from the lower recess to the upper surface. The passage includes an inverted inner channel formed in the recess and having upwardly converging sides meeting at a peak, and a connecting outer channel formed in the domed upper surface and having downwardly converging sides meeting at a valley. The peak and the valley are connected at adjoining ends of the inner and outer channels to form a restricting opening. The opening has an upper edge formed by the peak and a lower edge formed by the valley and connects the channels to form the lubrication passage. The passage is formed by oppositely moving dies that form the inner and outer channels and overlap at adjoining ends to form the opening without leaving a slug. A final sizing step is preferably included to finish the opening.
